Mr. D. L. Simmons passed away on
the 8th at the
home of Mr. E. W. Gillis, after a long illness, at the advanced age of
81 years
and 11 months. He had been gradually failing for over two years, but
had been
able to be up and around until a few days before the end. Mr. Simmons was one of the pioneer
settlers of Spring Park
and did well at truck farming and poultry raising. On account of his
feeble
health, he rented his farm and with his cousin, Mrs. L. Hamilton, who
has been
his housekeeper for several years, moved to Mrs. Gillis’ at the
time the latter
left for the North. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon, Mr. J. F. Hollingshead, officiating, and the body was laid to rest in the old cemetery in Ocala. Peace to his ashes. Source: Ocala Evening Star: 4-14-1905 Transcribed by Linda Flowers |
