Bronson began as a sawmill and trading post around 1839. The original settlement known as "Chunky Pond" was off of Main Street. In the early 1870's citrus groves were numerous, but they were wiped out following several hard freezes and were abandoned. Bronson is the county seat of Levy County. It lies at the intersection of US Hwy. 27, County Road 337 and State Road 24.
