New Hope

In 1900, New Hope had just 116 inhabitants of which, 9 were black. Sarah Peters and her family were farmers as well as; the Richard Waller family and Florida pioneer Edward Harris, born 1854, and his family. Charles Waller was listed as a guard over convicts. A saw mill provided jobs for the John Moore and Mathew Driggers families, among others. A phosphate mine was also located in New Hope.
