Hillsborough
County on the Gulf side of Central Florida was created on January 25,
1834. From the map at the left Hillsborough had a
rather
large land area. It extended to the east over half the area.
Now nine other counties have been carved in its
boundaries leaving
Hillsborough considerably smaller in land area. Manatee
(1855), Desoto & Pasco (1887), Polk (1861),
Pinellas (1911),
Charlotte,
Hardee, Highlands, and Sarasota (1921).Hello, I am Fran Smith, a native Floridian. Please feel free to add your information to the site as it will benefit future researching. A special thanks to Deborah Byrd who was your hostess for a number of years.
