Located on the St. John's River in North Central Florida, Putnam County was formed in January, 1849. It was named for Major Benjamin Alexander Putnam, a St. Augustine attorney who had served as an officer in the Second Seminole War.

It is with our deepest regrets that we inform you of the sad news our President and State Coordinator, Fran Smith has passed away.

Fran leaves a void in our hearts that we may never fill. Her Dedication to the FlGenWeb Project, Inc was huge.
Fran spent countless hours with our County Coordinators teaching us how to make web pages.
Fran wasn't just our leader she was our Friend. Fran will be greatly missed.
However as we all know this project meant the world to her and will continue to grow.
Bare with us as we find our footing without her.
Margaret Frances "Fran" Smith
