LOWMAN FAMILY

George Washington Lowman settled in Hernando Co in late 1852. He was born in Lexington Co., SC, Dutch Fork area, on 4 Jan 1837 and died on 25 Nov 1898 and is buried in New Hope Cemetery, Nobleton, FL. George's father was Michael (Lohrman) Lowman and his mother was Jemima Metz both from the Dutch Fork, SC area.

On 13 Jun 1898, a CSA Pension application was filed with the State of Florida due to disabilities George incurred while serving in the line of duty at Quincy, Fl. He contracted typhoid fever and pneumonia and was left with disabling complications. On 15 May, in Sumter Co., FL, George married Laura Ann Branch. They had two children - Charles Lafayette Lowman (father of Samuel Lowman a former Sheriff of Hernando Co.) and Anzly Irvin Lowman.

On 17 Mar 1889, George married Lizzie Glover in Hernando Co., FL. They had two children, Solomon Franklin Lowman and George Washington Lowman, Jr. Both Laura and Lizzie are buried in New Hope Cemetery.

Lowmans still live in the Brooksville/Istachatta area. George traveled from SC with his Uncle Simeon Lowman and his cousin Joel Leslie Lowman. Simeon settled in Alachua Co., and Joel Leslie in Raleigh, Levy Co., FL., where the original Lowman farm is still owned and operated by Lowmans.
