Formation of
Jefferson County:
Gilchrist county, named for Albert W. Gilchrist,Governor of Florida
1909-1913, was established in 1925 becoming the last county to be
established in Florida. Until that time, Gilchrist was part of
Alachua County. Today, there are three towns in Gilchrist.
Trenton is the county seat. Fanning Springs which
is shared
with Levy County and Bell are the other
two.
