Gilchrist county, named for Albert W. Gilchrist,Governor of
Florida 1909-1913, was established in 1925 becoming the last county to
be established in Florida. Until that time, Gilchrist was part of
Alachua County. Today, there are three towns in
Gilchrist. Trenton is the county seat. Fanning
Springs which is shared with Levy County and Bell are the other two.
