Rosetta Taswell, 96, of Quincy, died April 1, 2009 in Tallahassee Services were held April 11 at St. John AME Church, with burial at St. Paul PB Church in Fowlstown, Ga. Survivors include her daughters, Jeanette Taswell Francis of Quincy and Blanche Mize of Humble, Texas; son, Artis Taswell of Pinole, Calif.; grandson, Kyl Francis of Quincy; granddaughter, Barbara Mills of Brooklyn, N.Y.; nieces, Lucile McKay of Quincy and Rosetta Wright of Philadelphia, Penn.; and a host of other relatives.

Taylor, Alberta "Berta" Butler

Alberta "Berta" Butler Taylor, 92, of Quincy, died Dec. 28, 2009 in the Miracle Hill Convalescent Center. She was a native of Duval County and was a member of Second Elizabeth MB Church. Services were held Jan. 2 at the Second Elizabeth MB Church with burial following at the St. Hebron AME Church Cemetery in Quincy. She is survived by her sons, Ernest Taylor of Baltimore, Md., Lonnie Taylor of Quincy and Anderson "Andrew" Taylor of Baltimore; and daughters, Bertha Lee Franklin or Orlando, and Earlene T. Preston and Rena T. Nelson, both of Tallahassee.

Taylor, James W.

James W. Taylor, 70, of Glory Community passed away November 6, 2010. Services were held November 8, at Independent Funeral Home in Quincy with burial at Sylvania Cemetery in Faceville, GA. A lifelong resident of Gadsden Co., he retired as a motor grader operator for Gadsden County. He was also a farmer and a member of Hannatown United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Bo Taylor (Lisa) of Glory Community; two daughters, Terri White (Greg) of Tallahassee and Lynn Waterhouse (Derek) of Mebane, NC; two sisters, Rose Conrad of Tallahassee and Bernice Hayes of Jacksonville; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Taylor, Joyce Ann

Joyce Ann Taylor, 55, of Havana, died February 16, 2009, at the Haven Hospice Center, in Gainesville, FL. Funeral services were February 21, 2009, at New Jerusalem M.B. Church, in Havana, FL, with interment at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Havana, FL. She was born in Climax, GA and she was a member of Neal’s Temple Holiness Church. She is survived by her daughters, Tracy (Darrell) Miller and Yontina Davis, both of Tallahassee, FL, Angela (Michael) Gordon and April Taylor, both of Havana, Fl; sons , Rico (Martina) Taylor of Tallahassee, FL and Fernando Taylor of Havana, FL; mother, Eddie Ruth Bloxom of Havana, FL; father, Joe (Shirley) Bloxom of Tallahassee, FL; brother, Freddie (Tracie) Taylor of Gainesville, FL; and sister, Betty Wright of Brunswick, GA; and two (2) devoted friends, Lucy Robinson-Bell and Gloria Jean Thomas, both of Havana, FL. She has 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Andrea Taylor-Pritchard.

Taylor, Robert Lee

Robert Lee Taylor, 58, of Clearwater, died Dec. 13, 2009 in Tallahassee. Services were held Dec. 19 at Bostick Temple Christian Center in Quincy with burial following in the Charitable Pallbearers Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Hettie Powell Taylor; mother, Mary A. Tennent, Donna Jean

Donna Jean Tennent of Havana took the witness stand at her baptism in 1952 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She remained an active witness until her death on March 18, 2009, due to an extended illness. She made a good name with God, thereby proving the devil a liar (Proverbs 27:11). A memorial service was held March 21 at the Havana Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was a resident of the Tallahassee and Havana areas since 1947 and graduated from Leon High School in 1956. She worked at the Leon County Office of Growth Management for 23 years. She was preceded in death by her son, Tony Tennent. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Russell C. Tennent; daughter, Tracy McIntyre (Reggie) of Havana; son, Jonathan Tennent (Linda) of Tallahassee; grandsons, Daniel and Milton McIntyre of Havana; many nieces and nephews; and friends and coworkers.

Tharp, David R.

David R. Tharp, 74, died September 27, 2009 in Tallahassee. Services were held Sept. 30 at the Thomas Memorial Baptist Church with interment at Hillcrest Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Barbara Jean Butler Tharp of Quincy; sons, David Michael (Cheryl) Tharp, Mark Allen (Leslie) Tharp, Robert Jeffrey Tharp, all of Quincy; brothers, Joseph Tharp, Jr. of Bristol, FL, James Marshall Tharp of Satellite Beach, FL; sister, Virginia Tharp Whigham of Quincy; grandchildren, Travis Michael Tharp, Trevin Joseph Tharp and Brittany Katherine Tharp. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Trevor Tharp; his parents, Joseph W. and Willie Golden Tharp; brother, John Huey Tharp; and sister, Inez Gilbert. He was born in Washington Co., FL, Feb. 23, 1935. He for many years operated his own meat packing and sales operation in Quincy. He served in the Florida National Guard, former member of the Quincy Lions Club and was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church

Thomas, Dorothy Mae Washington

Dorothy Mae Washington Thomas, the daughter of Elnora Dickey Washington and William Washington was born June 6, 1932 and died in Avon Park, Florida on April 21, 2010. She is survived by two (2) sisters, three (3) daughters, five (5) grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and a loving family. Funeral services were held at Old Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church May 8, 2010. She will be forever missed.

Bessie Smith Thomas, 76, of Havana, passed away July 2, 2010. A Memorial Service was held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Havana, Florida. Thomas, James, Sr.

SGM James Thomas Sr., 58 of Statesboro, Georgia, passed away on October 16, 2009. He was funaralized on October 24, 2009 at the Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel in Glennville, Georgia and interred with full military honors on October 26, 2009 at Mt. Zion AME Church Cemetery in Havana, Florida. He is survived by his children, Trevor T. Thomas Sr. (Karen) of Ft. Drum NY, James Thomas Jr. Of Statesboro,Ga, Felecia Thomas of Columbus Ga, Songa D. Jones and Nkenge A. Cruz (Romanuel) both of Stone Mountain, GA. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild

Stella M. Tillman, 84, of Greensboro, died July 8, 2006 in Greensboro. Service July 15 at St. Peter Apostolic Church, with burial at Greensboro Community Cemetery. Mrs. Tillman was born May 4, 1922 in Gadsden County to the late Frances Fain Gainous and James D. Fain. She was married to Rufus Scott. She is survived by her son, Henry Ernest Scott of Greensboro.

Thomas, Hazel J.

Hazel J. Thomas, 87, of Tallahassee, FL died March 3, 2009 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee. Her memorial service was held March 5, 2009 at Riverside Baptist Church in Havana. Mrs. Hazel is survived by her son Lamar Dennis (and wife Luzce) of Daytona, FL; her three daughters, Dorothy Medley (and husband Ed) of Havana, Margaret Pickles (and husband Jack) of Tallahassee, and Brenda Parker (and husband George) of Tallahassee; one niece, Earnestine Bates of Milton, FL; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Paul V. Thomas. Mrs. Hazel was born in Mitchell County, GA, November 7, 1921. She had lived in Tallahassee area for more than 50 years. Mrs. Hazel loved to travel, she enjoyed short or long trips. She just loved to be on the go. She loved all animals especially her cats and dogs. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family.

Sallie Thomas, 88 of Havana, died January 9, 2007 in Havana. Funeral services were January 13 at Richbay AME Church with burial in Richbay (Piney Grove) Cemetery. She is survived by a daughter, Annie R. Adams of Havana; seven grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Thompson, Annell Cantey

Annell Cantey Thompson, 85, of Havana, a homemaker, died December 23, 2005 at her home after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Service at Green Shade Cemetery in Decatur County, GA. Member of First Presbyterian Church in Havana and the ladies circle of the church. Survivors: a son, Terry Thompson (and wife Janet) of Climax, GA; four daughters, Anne Bert (and husband Nick) of Havana, Cindy O'Connell (and husband Dan) of Boca Raton, Janet Hamilton (and husband Harold) of Nashville, TN, and Susan Thompson of Havana; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Thompson.

Thompson, Elaine Noel Whitcomb

Elaine Noel Whitcomb Thompson, 89, of Gretna passed away at home July 3, 2010. Survivors include five children; daughters and their husbands, Sheryl and Angus Hinson of Quincy, Jean and Wally Dawson of San Antonio, FL, Gail and Scott Wilson of Tallahassee; sons, John and wife Liza Thompson of Tallahassee, Gregory Thompson of Lake Talquin; five (5) grandchildren, Angus T. Hinson, Jr. of Tampa, Wil Hinson of Quincy, Wally Dawson, II, and Susan Dawson of San Antonio, FL, John Hill Thompson of Tallahassee; and five (5) great grandchildren. Born December 24, 1920 in Sanford, Maine, Elaine ws the daughter of the late Arthur Elias and Florence Maurice Whitcomb and the sister of the late Muriel W. Sladen, all of Sanford. She was a registered nurse and served in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during W W II. While in the Navy she met and married her late husband, John Wallace Thompson of Gretna, on September 23, 1944. After moving to Gretna, she was a surgical nurse at Gadsden County Hospital. She later served as Postmistress of Gretna for 28 years. She was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.

Johnnie Ruth Jackson Thompson, 55, of Quincy, died June 29, 2006. She was a homemaker. Funeral services July 8 at St. Matthew PB Church, with burial at Sunnyvale Cemetery. Born August 21, 1950 in Havana to Herbert “Hoover” Jackson and Pearl Lee Jackson, she attended school in Gadsden County. . She is survived by her husband of nine years, Billy Thompson, Sr; her daughter, Shandra Williams Beckwith (Derrick) of Havana, her step-daughter, Brenda Thompson of Tallahassee; her step-sons, Billy Thompson, Jr. (Keyshonda) of Quincy, Bryan Thompson (Renita) and Saroctia Thompson both of Tallahassee; a grandson, LaVante Beckwith of Havana; her mother, Pearl Lee Jackson of Quincy; brothers, Roy Jackson (Shenezia) of Tallahassee, Kelvin Jackson, Sr. (Shelia), Bruce Jackson, Sr. (Kareen) and Willie Jackson, Sr. all of Quincy; her sisters, Valerie Thomas (Johnny) of Quincy, Laverne Jackson, Nita Jackson of Tallahassee and Stephanie Smith (Hakim) of Philadelphia, PA. She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Hoover Jackson and a sister, Wanda Faye Johnson.

Todd, Clarence Alvin

Clarence Alvin Todd, 79, of Quincy, died May 22, 2006 in Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. Graveside services were May 25 at Antioch Church Cemetery in Wetumpka. He was born December 9, 1926 in the Wetumpka Community, and retired as the produce manager for Sykes Fine Foods in Quincy. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Sellers Todd of Quincy; a son, Al Todd (wife Brenda) of Blountstown; his daughters, Gloria Gaston (husband Bruce) of Quincy and Betty McDaniel (husband Ronnie) of Knoxville, Tenn.; his brother, Mac Todd of Columbus, Ga.; sister, Ethel Suber of Greensboro;12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Touchton, Joyce Ann

Joyce "Jo" Ann Touchton, 50, of Havana, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Her funeral service was at Faith Funeral Home Chapel in Havana with burial at Magnolia Hill Cemetery in Havana (Concord). Jo was a lifetime resident of Havana. She was a member of Bible Believers Fellowship in Tallahassee. Her entire world was centered around her children and family. She is survived by her husband, Tom Touchton of Havana; two sons, Trey Touchton of Pensacola and Clay Touchton of Havana; one grandson, Thomas Stanley Touchton; her mother, Nell Wilke of Tallahassee; her sister, Lisa Rackley (and husband Jim) of Tallahassee; one nephew, Alex Rackley; and four very special people in her life, Buddy Owen, Mark Register, Steve King, Jr. and Tara Walter. She was preceded in death by her father, L. D. Kever, her brother, Larry Kever, and a sister, Linda Kever.

Marsby “Trib” Tribue, Jr., 76, of Quincy and most recently of Lithonia, GA, died November 6th at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare in Tallahassee. Funeral services were November 13th, at Arnett Chapel AME Church,with burial in the Smith Cemetery, Quincy. He is survived by a loving and devoted family; children, Michael E. Tribue (Gloria), Marsha Pitts (Marvin), Paula Tribue, Leonard Tribue, Sr. (Chandronet), Mechele Kent (Matthew), Keicah Rouse (Earnest), Marvin Tribue (Pamela); stepchildren, Judy Brown, Gina Smith (Tony), Anthony Bethune, Melinda Goodman; sister, Ora D. Johnson; brother, Alto Tribue; mothers of his children, Marilyn Donaldson, Faye Simmons and the late Essie Tribue; godson, Zacariah Wynn; host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marsby Tribue; and sister, Cathrine Tribue Downs. He was born November 19, 1933 in Quincy, FL to the late Rosa Lee Gammon Tribue and Marsby Tribue, Sr.. He attended the public schools of Gadsden County, was a self-employed building contractor and a former member of the Masonic family.
