Concordia Conference Minutes - 1895

These minutes were transcribed from the original church conference books by Angela Cassidy.

I have typed the minutes pretty much as written, sometimes inserting the notation (sic) after misspelled words
to indicate that they were typed as written. There is a great lack of punctuation and usually I typed it as
written, but when it made the content difficult to understand, I sometimes inserted punctuation. When the church
clerk wrote Concord Baptist Church, I typed it that way, and when he or she wrote it Concordia Baptist Church, I
typed it that way, too. Occasionally when someone's initials were used, I inserted the person's name in
parentheses. Likewise, when the person's name was misspelled, I have corrected it if I knew who the person was,
so that genealogists searching for their ancestors can find them.

Typist's Notes: Abbreviations commonly used at this time include: Bro. for Brother. C.C. for church clerk.
Addopt for Adopted. Mod. for Moderator.

Typist's Notes: A letter being given to someone was essentially a transfer of membership to another church. If
a person requested to leave the church, a letter was given. However, if a person just quit coming because he/she
joined another church, that person was usually dropped from the roll, but sometimes excommunicated. In this
year, several people will be "dropt" from the roll and presumably it was because they joined the
Methodist Church. That is the only explanation for such large numbers being dropped at one time. The
Methodist Church was new in the community, and people now had a choice; whereas, previously, there was only
this one church for white people.
