Concordia Conference Minutes - 1864

County Coordinator's Notes: In the years before the Civil War, this church
accepted slaves of their members into the church. A slave will not have a surname,
only a given name, and usually the words "belonging to Mr. Whoever." Abbreviations
commonly used at this time include: Bro. for Brother. Ch Clk for church clerk.

January 23rd 1864
Church of Christ at Concord

After Preaching by Bro. O. E. McKeown Opened conference Opened the door of the Church for the reception of members when Miss Lucretia Brooks came forward with her letter and was received into the fellowship of the Church. Read proceedings of last meeting. Bro. N. R. Hand, W. C. Hendry & J. G. Connell were Elected deligates to the union meeting to be held at the Indian Spring Church on Friday before the fifth Sabbath in this month. There being no further business dismissed in order.

Sunday 24th Joe, servant belonging to the Estate of Labon? Rawls came forward and was received for Baptism.

After Preaching by Bro. O. E. McKeown opened Conference Opened the door of the Church for the reception of members when P. A. McGriff & wife, Miss Sarah R. Buton came forward with letters and were received into the fellowship of Church. Read proceedings of last meeting. There being no further business dismissed in order.

After Preaching by Bro. O. E. McKeown opened conference opened the door of the Church for the reception of members. Read proceedings of last meeting. Bro. R. H. Reeves applied for a letter of dismission. On motion of Bro. Mann it was refered until next conference. There being no further business dismissed order.

Sunday 27th Peter, a Black man belonging to Mr. Truluck, was received for Baptism.

April 23rd 1864

After Preaching by B. McKeown Opened conference. Opened the door of the Church for the reception of members when Mrs. Dora A. Nazworth, Mrs(Miss?) Nancy Harrison & Miss Mary DeLacy came forward and was received for Baptism. Also Sister Regan brought forward a certificate for Duncan McCray (McRae) who was received into fellowship of Church. Read proceedings of last meeting. On motion Brother Scott, the Aplication of Bro. R. H. Reeves for a letter was with drawn and he was excommunicated from the fellowship of the Church for joining another Church of a different faith and order. There being no further business dismissed in order. Night Miss Jane Dalton and ____ Davis came forward and was received for Baptism. Sunday 24th Thomas Harrison give in at the water. In evening received eight (Blks).

Read the proceedings of last meeting. Read the Church Covenant. There being no further Business dismissed in order.

Sunday 24 T. J. (Thomas Jefferson) Peavy came forward with a letter and was received into the fellowship of the Church.

After Preaching by Bro. O. E. McKeown opened conference opened the door of the Church. Read the Proceedings of last meeting. The Case of Sister Connell was refered until next conference. The hand of fellowship was withdrawn from Sister Ann Johnson for Joining a Church not of the same faith and order. There being no further business dismissed in order.

Sunday 23 Mrs. Nancy Chester came forward and was received for Baptism.

After Preaching by Bro. O. E. McKeown opened conference opened the door of the Church for the reception of members when Mrs. Rody (Rhoda) Marsh came forward and was received for Baptism. The case of sister Connell was brought up and the hand of fellowship withdrawn. There being no further business dismissed in order.

Sunday 27th Sister Martha Bostwick came forward with letter and was received into the fellowship of the Church.
