Concordia Conference Minutes - 1860

County Coordinator's Notes: In the years before the Civil War, this church
accepted slaves of their members into the church. A slave will not have a surname,
only a given name, and usually the words "belonging to Mr. Whoever." Abbreviations
commonly used at this time include: Bro. for Brother. C.C. for church clerk. In this
set of minutes, Alexander Bowen was elected Clerk, and his spelling is only phoenetically
correct, so it might help to read it out loud and hear it. His word for committee was
comity. His word for order was auder. They "red" the minutes.
