Miss Nancy Burns, aged 73 and her niece Miss Annie Burns, 47, were shot to death, late Sat, 4-14-1934--their bodies found by a neighbor,
Mrs. James Strickland, on Sunday A.M. - 4-15-1934. Older lady shot in breast, died at once. Younger woman Miss Annie shot in shoulder
and it came out her back--then shot through side of head--blew out two teeth. She lived some time after being shot, according to doctor
who visited scene. Robbery motive, a box used to store valuables was missing.
Except for a strange twist of fate, another lady Mrs. J. L. (Kitty) Gray might have been with them. She usually spent some nights with
them but that night was with other relatives. She is a niece by marriage of the older lady (Miss Nancy). Brothers of younger woman
are J. F. Burns of Calvary and Wm. Burns of Jacksonville. [End of news story]. |
