Putnam Lumber Company

The lumbering enterprise of the Putnam Lumber Company  produced 40MM board feet of tidewater red cypress and 100MM board feet of longleaf yellow pine at their mill in Shamrock.  There was also a lodge built in 1927-29 as part of the lumber company which had a lobby, dinning room and  36 rooms which accommodated company people as well as tourists.   The company has expanded into other counties that have cypress timber to be harvested.  Since 1947 the company has been in the export business to several  European and South American cities.

The Putnam Lodge was built in 1927.  It was a popular stopping place for visitors to Putnam Lumber Company who opened their doors to visitors.  in 2004 a historical monument was erected and the dedication was held on December 8th of that year.

The Putnam Lumber Company started in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in 1900, branching out to Jacksonville, Florida and other areas in Florida too.
