"Orange picking was a family
affair in 1900"
This picture of a group of
orange pickers, their wives and children was taken about 1900. Note the
wicker picker bags which were replaced later with canvas bags. Today (1976)
few pickers use bags. They prefer to drop or shake the fruit to the ground
and pick it up in buckets. The photo was furnished courtesy of Mrs. Corinne
Duncan Durrance of Castalia community, and the only one she could identify
was her father, Joe Duncan, fourth from left."
