PATRICIA CONNOR MALLOY – 80 - Polk Co. School Board
EDMOND, OK. - Retired Polk County principal, Patricia Mary Connor Malloy, passed from this life to the next on June 12, 2011 in Edmond, OK, due to natural causes from heart complications.
She was born on March 24, 1931 in Boston, MA. Pat earned her Bachelor's degree from Framingham State Teacher's College, Framingham, and Master's from Simmons College, Boston, MA. She received her Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida, Tampa. Pat and her family moved to Lakeland in 1970 where she began working for the Polk County School District at Lakeland Junior High. In the years following she worked at Kathleen High School, Lakeland Highlands Junior High, and Lake Gibson Middle school where she retired as principal.
Pat was loved and respected by those who worked with her or were her students. She always wanted the best outcome for young people. Pat saw all five of her own children graduate from Kathleen High School. Pat and her husband, Jim, were avid travelers and belonged to the camping organization, Family Motor Coach Association, in which Pat held the national office of vice president for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and James Connor; husband, James T. Malloy, Sr.; a nephew, John Lombardi; a sister, Margaret Lombardi; a brother-in-law, Paul Lom-bardi; and a grandson, Shawn Bell.
Pat is survived by her 5 children, James T. Malloy, Jr. and wife Ruth (Lakeland), Michael J. Malloy and wife Esther (Broadway, Virginia), Patricia A. Malloy and husband David Nichols (Oklahoma City, OK), Lawrence W. Malloy and wife Teresa (Mt. Dora), Kathleen M. Malloy and husband Angel M. Castro (Tallahassee), and daughter-in-law Joann Malloy (Lakeland). Pat was proud to be a grandmother to Michele, Stephanie, Erin, Alison, Patrick, Katherine, Charmaine, Ryan, James, Sarah, John, Shawn, Jessica, Jason, Matthew, Adam and Ruth and great-grandmother to Ainsley and Andilyn.
A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on Monday, July 18, 2011 at Lake Gibson United Methodist Church, 424 West Daughtery Road, Lakeland, FL 33809.
