Margaret McGriff-Thompson, a lifelong resident of Lakeland, Florida
(died of heart failure on July 22, 2012). She attended Moorehead
Elementary, and graduated from Washington Park High School.
Margaret continued her education at Florida Normal Industrial
Institution (St. Augustine, FL) where she received her B.S. degree and
her Masters of Education from Florida Agriculture Mechanical University
(Tallahassee, Florida).
Margaret was a
member of First Baptist Institutional Church for eighty-two years. As a
member, she was a dedicated servant with the Floral Club, District,
Choir One and Two, Intermediate Teacher for Class One and Two and
President of General Mission.
She was an educator
for twenty-seven and a half years; during her tenure as an educator
she worked as an Elementary teacher in Jasper, Florida and Lakeland,
Florida. She retired as an educator in 1970 from Polk County School.
Margaret was
preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Annie Franklin;
four sisters, Lillar Sanders, Elise Robinson, Pansy Waldon and Bessie
Luster; one brother Jake Livingston; husband Eddie Thompson, Jr.,
and son Johnny Jay McGriff.
Sister
Margaret Franklin McGriff Thompson leaves to cherish her memory and
carry on her legacy a devoted family: one daughter, Eddie Mae Barnes,
White Plains, N.Y; daughter-in-law Sharyn McGriff; three grandsons,
Darrence McGriff, Terrence McGriff (Lisa), both of Lakeland, FL, Kevin
Gason, Davenport, FL; three granddaughters, Wendelyn C. Barnes,
Scarsdale, New York, Andrena Dabbs, Augusta, GA, Shar-Nay Gatson,
Durham, NC; one great granddaughter, Charlotte Elizabeth McGriff,
Lakeland, FL; two great nieces, Lolita Robinson-Berrien, Shawn Simon,
Lakeland, FL; a host of in laws, great nephews, nieces & other
relatives.
Visitation
is Friday, at 1st Baptist Institutional Church and the Funeral Service
is Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Church. – Ledger, July
