             Confederate Veteran, Valentine V.VanHuss

  Pioneer  to Lakeland, dies at the age of 101, V.V.VanHuss a patient at Bay Pines Veteran Hospital, and one of the few remaining Confederate Veterant of the Civil War died, Thursday, at the age of 101.
  Mr. VanHuss a pioneer resident of Lakeland was 101 years old on Oct.16,1941. He entered Bay Pines Hospital only a short time before his death.
  During the Civil War he served with the 8th. Regiment of the Tennessee Cavalry for 3 years. He was the oldest resident of Lakeland, settling in the city in 1885. He built the city's first opera house and the VanHuss building. He was active in business there for many years.
  Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. J.R.Duggan of Lakeland; a son, Orlando S.VanHuss, Miami.
