Corporal James H. Mills
his return home

Born in Fort Meade and entered service there in 1943. Assigned to the 3rd Division in the Anzio, Italy beachhead, south of Rome.
 Withdrawn from
active duty after being wounded. Returned to Fort Meade to become a farmer, county wildlife office and later a contact with the Veterans' Administration in Gainesville, Florida.
 Died Nov. 11, 1973 after being beaten and run over by three men he and his caretaker had stopped to help.
 Buried in Oak Hill

Cemetery in Lakeland, Florida. Recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor.
