Sims - age 97 - Died at his home in Lakeland yesterday morning, he was
the last surviving Union Civil War Veteran in Lakeland. The funeral
will be held on Monday afternoon at 2 from the Snook chapel and the
service will be conducted by Rev. S. W. Walker, pastor of College
Heights Methodist Church. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Masons will serve as pallbearers. Mr. Sims came to Lakeland in 1908, and was a native of Ohio. He was a Mason and Knight Templar and had been Postmaster in Arkansas. Julius had lived at 522 McRorie Street. Mr. Sims is survived by his second wife, Fairy Dunn/Sims, 2 sons ; Nevin Sims of Salem, Ind. and Charles Sims of St. Louis and a daughter Mrs. Cooper, also of St. Louis. Henry Dunn - in Lakeland on a visit of three months, died this morning
at 7:30 at 313 North Massachusetts Ave. Mr Dunn, a Civil War Veteran,
was 85 years of age. He and his wife, Mrs. Fairy Dunn came here from Danville, Ill. and funeral arrangements are pending word from relatives. In charge of arrangements was Gentry-Howe. ( Lakeland Evening Ledger and Star Telegram, Thursday, June 23, 1932 ) |

D. Sims - Mrs. Maggie( Morrow ) Sims, 59, died last night at 8:15 at
her home 522 East McRorie Street. She had resided here for 25 years. In addition to her husband, Julius D. Sims, survivors are a step-son, Julius D. Sims,Jr. who is enroute to Lakeland from Indiana; a brother, Dr. J. J. Morrow, of Cotter, Ark.; and a sister, Mrs. J. P. Homer, Edenberg, Texas. Funeral arrangements will be announced on arrival of relatives. Snook Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. D. Sims and his marriage to Fairy Dunn, at his age of 96. Charles Henry Dunn was husband to Fairy Dunn, sorry, I do not have other records on Fairy after the death of Julius Sims in 1937. Julius Sims had to have been married 3 times- I find a marriage for a J. D. Sims for year 1914 to a Edna Gertrude Prine. |
