LAKELAND - Helen V. Mitchell went home to be with the Lord on Sunday February 2nd, 2020. She was born in Lakeland and has been a lifetime resident. Helen was a member of New Home Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and spending time with family. >Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil T. Mitchell and son, Dale A. Mitchell. >Survivors include her son, Cecil P. 'Butch' Mitchell; daughters, Deborah (Franklyn) Carter, Cecilia Mandish; sister, Ruth Grady; 4 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday 2/7/20 from 10:00 - 11:00am with services to begin at 11, at New Home Baptist Church, 901 N. Galloway Rd. Interment will follow in New Home Baptist Church Cemetery. LAKELAND - Donna Ann Butler of Lakeland was born on Dec. 29, 1942 and passed away peacefully October 12, 2018. >She was preceded in death by her parents James Henry and Ruby Wood Butler along with her brothers Darnell F. and Robert H. Butler. A graveside service will be held at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery on Swindell Rd on Tuesday, Oct 16th at 2:00 pm. EUSTIS - Martha Emerson Carter went home to be with the Lord Monday, September 16, 2013, as a result of natural causes. Ms. Carter was born February 8, 1917 in Lafayette County, FL. She moved to Lakeland with her family in 1937. Ms. Carter was most recently a member of Lake Gibson Church of Christ and formerly a longtime member of Lake Wire Church of Christ. She was a dear, sweet lady who will be missed by family and friends alike. >Ms. Carter was preceded in death by her beloved, twin sister, Mary Walker. >She is survived by her son, John W. Carter, 2 grandsons and numerous loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 9-10am at Lakeland Funeral Home at 2125 South Bartow Highway in Lakeland. LAKELAND -- Mrs. Carrie Louise Brown of Lakeland died of natural causes associated with old age Monday (Dec. 5, 2005) at Hawthorne Inn. She was born in Capshaw, Ala., on Nov. 2, 1911, she came to Lakeland from Centre, Ala., in 1937. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Griffin Baptist Church. >Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Brown. >She is survived by her sons, Bill Brown, Jimmy Brown, both of Lakeland, Harold Brown, Saltville, Va.; daughters, Shirley Glass, Ocala, Barbara Watkins, Linda Nix, both of Lakeland; 32 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Griffin Baptist Church. Services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Lanier Funeral Home. -

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Louise W. Calhoun of Lakeland died of complications following surgery Wednesday (Oct. 1, 2003) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was born in Montgomery County, Ga., on June 4, 1916, she came to Lakeland from there in 1940. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
>Mrs. Calhoun was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Calhoun. >She is survived by her son, Gary Calhoun, Otto, N.C.; daughters, Trudie Joyce Robbins, Teresa Wilkes, both of Lakeland; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be this evening at Lanier Funeral Home, 717 W. Griffin Road, Lakeland. Services will be Saturday at New Home Baptist Church in Lakeland.

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Louise Jordan Glover of Lakeland died of heart failure Saturday (Nov. 2, 2002) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was born in Polk County on Oct. 17, 1921, she was a lifelong resident. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Mount Enon Church. >Mrs. Glover was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce B. Glover. >She is survived by her sons, Earl Glover and David Glover, both of Lakeland, and Phillip Glover, Elizabeth, Colo.; daughters, Joyce Rogers and Darlene Withrow, both of Lakeland, and Gloria Mills, Miltonhall, England; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Enon Church. Services will follow at the church. Lanier Funeral Home,Lakeland.

LAKELAND - Ruby Lee Shiver Murphy Harrod of Lakeland, made her final journey home Friday, October 16, 2009 due to respiratory failure.  She was born January 23, 1915 in TyTy, GA., and was a member of New Home Baptist Church. >She was predeceased by her first husband, James Monroe Murphy and daughter Lucille Murphy Gibson, and second husband Ralph Harrod. >She is survived by her daughters, JoAnn Murphy Hodge (Jesse) and Sylvia Murphy Prescott; stepson, Ralph Harrod, Jr; 5 grandsons, Ricky Hodge, Keith Hodge (Taree), Robby Prescott (Shaun), Scott Hodge (Tracy), and Curtis Prescott; 17 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandsons. A visitation will be at New Home Baptist Church on the corner of Galloway Rd and Swindell in Lakeland; with a funeral service following at 11:00am, Monday October 19, 2009; Reverend Jeff Kidd officiating. INGLIS - Lester "Buddy" Hilliard, Sr. of Inglis, FL, passed away Tuesday January 15, 2013 at Hospice House of Citrus County in Lecanto, FL, due to natural causes. He was born July 30, 1922 in Waycross, GA, to Hiram Parton and Ruby Irene (Canup) Hilliard. He came to Inglis, FL 6 years ago from Tallahassee, FL. He retired after 35 years of service as a conductor with Atlantic and Seaboard Coastline Railroad of Lakeland, FL. He was a Mason and a WWII US Army veteran. And he was of the Baptist faith.> In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother. >He is survived by a son Lester H. Hilliard Jr. (Ollie) of Citrus Springs, FL and a daughter Judy Brent (James) of Inglis, FL, 1 brother Jack Hilliard (Jessie) of Phil Campbell, AL, and 2 sisters Marie Haynie of Hendersonville, NC, and Elsie Coleman of Stuart, FL, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. LAKELAND - Mr. Kenneth L. Stilwell passed away on December 21, 2019. He was born in Lakeland, FL and has been a lifetime resident. Kenneth retired after 25 years from the City of Lakeland, where he worked as a lineman foreman. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. Kenneth loved fishing, karaoke and restoring automobiles. >He is survived by his wife, Rose Stilwell; daughters, Tiffany Stilwell, Tonia (Oscar) Astacio; brother, Rex (Carol) Stilwell; sisters, Mary (Jr.) Rayborn, June Linton; step children, James (Paulette) VanDeHey, Todd (Nicki) VanDeHey, Lisa Boutwell; 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; 9 nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be Friday, 12/27/19 from 6:00 - 8:00pm at Gentry Morrison Funeral Home at Serenity Gardens, 3350 Mall Hill Dr. Interment with military honors will be conducted at Florida National Cemetery at a later date.
