Mrs. Susan Virginia Ross, who
came to Lakeland from Virginia 12 years ago, died Friday night
at
Morrell Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements have not been completed
pending arrival of relatives, but services probably will be held Monday
at Socrum Baptist Church. Mrs.
Ross had lived at Socrum for the past 2
years. > Surviving are 3 sons, W. B.
Ross, Milwaukee, R. B. Ross of St. Louis and I. J. Ross of Socrum; 4
daughters, Mrs. S. F. Hurst of Live Oak, Mrs. W. T. Ward of Socrum,
Mrs. L. R. Roberts and Mrs. W. E. Woods of Lakeland; 3 brothers, J. H.
and J. C. Tatum of Deland and L. A. Tatum of Knights; 3 sisters, Mrs.
N. L. Perry and Mrs. J. W. Menshew of Barbersville, and Mrs. W. W. Vann

held yesterday ( Tuesday ) afternoon at 4:30 at the Socrum Church. A
large crowd attended and there were many beautiful floral offerings. -

W. T. Harrison, A. L. Harrell, J. L. Lloyd, D. H. O’Quinn and P.

Funeral services for Hughey
Robbins of Clay Sink, formerly of Socrum, were held this morning at
10:00 from the Socrum Baptist Church with Rev. J. E. Bryant of the Clay
Sink Baptist Church officiating. Arthur Bryant was in charge of the
music. Mr. Robbins, 39 year old
farmer, died in Brooksville hospital after and illness of 8 months. He
lived in Socrum untill 5 years ago, when he moved to Clay Sink. > He is survived by his
widow, 6 children, Betty Larue, Thelma, Inez, Edward, Jose and Earl;
his father, Charles S. Robbins of Socrum; a sister, Mrs. J. H. Lane of
Richloam and 3 brothers, Henry of Medulla, Herman of Lake Wales and
Daniel of Socrum. Interment was in Socrum Cemetery. Pallbearers were
Ralph Mallory, J. Ed Bryant, J. M. Nash, Eddie Osteen, Floyd Osteen,
and Floyd Gandy.

LAKELAND - Mae
V. Wiggins, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015, of natural
causes. Mae was born August
30, 1917, and a lifelong resident. She was a member of one of the pioneer
families of the Providence Settlement and Bethel Baptist Church.
Her dogs were her pride and joy. She enjoyed quilting and cooking,
especially chicken 'n dumplings and red velvet cake.> Preceded in
death by her husband,
J. C. Wiggins;
daughter, JoAnne W. Strain; and 3 sisters and 4 brothers. >She is
survived by son, Rabon Roswell Strain; granddaughter, Melba Kay
Roberts; grandson, Charlton Roberts; great grandsons, Johnathan Harper,
Mitchell Harper, J. C. Strain; great granddaughter, Lindsey Strain; and
great great granddaughters, Kaylee and Kelsey Harper. Visitation will
be Monday, February 16, 2015, at Bethel Baptist Church with funeral

Collins, Ga. He contracted Typhoid Fever 3

A large crowd of sorrowing
relatives and friends gathered at the Socrum Baptist Church yesterday
afternoon to pay their final respects to the memory of Rev. S.C.Sloan,
a former Polk Co., resident who died Sunday night in Collins, Ga. >Rev. J. L. Hampton, long time
friend of the deceased, officiated. He was assisted by Dr. Cunningham,
Dr. Milton, Rev. Bascom Sutton, Rev. Steve McClelland and Rev. Charles
Hancock.
The music was rendered by
Mrs. Tom Cason, Mrs. E. D. Cason, Miss Alyne Malloy and Mr. and Mrs.
Vivian Selph. Interment was in the Socrum
Cemetery. Pallbearers, all nephews of the deceased, were Wright

"Cherokee" Bryant of Dade City, formerly of Lakeland, died of heart and
lung failure Tuesday (Dec. 20, 2005) at Pasco Regional Medical Center
in Dade City. He was born in Toombs County, Ga., on Aug. 1,
1933, he moved to Dade City from Lakeland one year ago.
He was a truck driver for AOC in Lakeland for 15 years. He was a

LAKELAND - Mr. Raymond Herbert Bryant, died of dementia Thursday April 12, 2007 . Born in Lakeland on August 26, 1928, he was a lifelong resident. He was a supervisor with the city of Lakeland in the Public Works Department, retiring in 1985. He was a member and deacon of Fellowship Church Assembly of God, and a member of the Fellowship Church Board for more than 12 years. Mall. She worked as a floral designer for many years. Karen

Floral Design from a college in the West Palm Beach area. Karen's
passions included fishing, hunting, and she loved her arts and crafts.
In addition to making flower arrangements as her job, she especially
enjoyed making floral arrangements for people she felt needed cheering

LAKELAND - Sandra "Sandy" Brooks
Amos, of Lakeland, FL, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2013
surrounded by her loving children at the Tri-county Nursing Home in
Trenton, FL due to renal failure. She was born December 28, 1941 in
Lakeland, FL to the late L.V. and Doris (Brosie) Brooks.
Sandy married her Kathleen High School sweetheart, Joe Amos,
53 years ago. She was a homemaker for many years. Sandy never met a
stranger and was always volunteering. She volunteered for the schools
while her children were there and then later for nieces and nephews.
Sandy volunteered for Lakeland Regional Medical Center in the E.R. as a
"Pink Lady" and loved it. For many years, Sandy & Joe coached girls
softball for Miss Lakeland softball.
>Survivors include: sons Terry
Amos, Jacksonville, Dennis Amos, Lawrenceburg , TN, Joseph "Jaybird"
Amos (Joyce), Polk City; daughters Virginia "Ginger" Jeffries (Keith),
Cross City, and Elizabeth "Beth" Amos (Steve), Lakeland. Sandy and Joe
also raised three of their nieces and nephews: Kim Branthoover (Hap),
Debbie and Eddie Amos, all of Lakeland, sisters Sharon Ely (Gary) and
Sheryl Parada (Hector) of Lakeland. She also had 16 grandchildren and
11 great grandchildren. She loved her family. >She was preceded in death by

of Lakeland, passed away Aug. 15, 2012 in Alabama due to heart
failure. Mrs. Ash had worked as a teacher's aide for 18 years at
Padgett Elementary School, and as a Sunday School teacher at Parkview
Baptist Church. Prior to her husband's death
in 2002, they had a small craft and woodworking shop. >Mary is

Higgins, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Lakeland Regional
Medical Center due to complications of a stroke. Doc was a lifelong
resident of Lakeland, born in "Socrum" on May 10, 1930. He was a
member of the Bethel Baptist Church. He will be sadly missed by Reba, his wife of 60
years; two daughters, Linda Higgins and Sharon (Steve) Black; two
