Mrs. Mildred B. Dorsey, passed away, April 12, 2009 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Sunday, Mildred was born, April 17, 1915 in Lakeland to Harvey and Alice Bates.  Mildred graduated from Lakeland High School, and attended Outreach Baptist Church. > She is preceded in death by her husband, John F. Dorsey; siblings, Buster Bates, John Bates, Evelyn Waters and Andrew Bates.  > She is survived by, 2 brothers, William and Cleve Bates; 1 sister, Louise. Services at Gentry-Morrison Northside Chapel with interment at Socrum Cemetery, Lakeland.
>RITTER, Henry Edward -
 A resident of Providence Road, Socrum area, died Sunday ,Jan 19, 1958,   Services were held at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Hicks, pastor of Gibsonia Baptist Church officiating. Selections were sung by the church quartet.
 Pallbearers were, B .J.Jackson, Major Roberts, W. C. Grigsby, Hiram A. Roberts , John H. Walker and Leon Mann.
 Honorary pallbearers were Arthur Roberts, Walter Costine, Ed Bridges, Tom More, Sim P. Mock, M. L. Hall and Clyde Lindsey.  Burial was in Socrum Cemetery under the direction of Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home.
>CASEBIER, Mrs. W. A. - Mrs. Mary L. Casebier  - 76 -  wife of W.A.Casebier, died Sunday in Morrell Hospital after a lingering illness at her home in Kathleen. She had lived in Kathleen since 1912 and was a member of the Kathleen Methodist Church.   Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Kathleen Methodist Church with interment in Socrum Cemetery.  Futch- Steen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. > Surviving her is her husband and a son; Herbert N. Casebier of Kathleen; 2 daughters; Mrs. W. P.Cain of Dade City and Miss Mary Casebier of Kathleen; a brother, Nicholas Tevis of Berryton, Kansas; a sister, Mrs. Annie Oats of Seattle, Washington; and a grandson, Patric Cain of Dade City. >ALLRED, Thomas Jefferson, Sr. - 76 - Truck Driver
LAKELAND -Mr. Thomas Jefferson Allred, Sr., died of a stroke Monday (February 27, 2012). Born in Bartow on July 14, 1935, Mr. Allred was a lifelong resident. He was a truck driver, and he served in the National Guard. He was a member of the Lions Club. > Mr. Allred was preceded in death by his wife Shirley L. Allred.  >He is survived by his sons Tommy Allred, Jeff Allred, and Shea Allred; daughters Ann Allred, Vicky Albritton, Karen Jackson, Patsy Olinger; brothers Bill Allred, Don Allred; sisters Nancy Wacker, Iris Duncan and Frances Tyson; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. SHERROUSE, Charles Marion "Bunk" - 72 -
Lakeland- Charles went peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 17, 2012, due to cancer. >  He is preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Martha Sherrouse.  >  He is survived by his wife of 51 years Sarah Sherrouse; his sister Carrie Norton; his daughter Charlene Weatherford (Bart), son Chuck Sherrouse; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.  He was a Master Mechanic for over 34 years. One of his many hobbies were trains; and he was a member of the Ridgelive Steamers of Dundee. Family history was very important to Bunk, and he left a wonderful legacy of a re-connected Sherouse/Sherrouse family. He helped research and author From Salzburg to Socrum, a book documenting the genealogy of the Sherrouse families. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 21st. at Socrum Cemetery, Lakeland, Florida. Lanier Funeral Home. David Elwell Freeman of Route 2, died at the Bartow General Hospital yesterday ( Oct. 11, 1949 ) at 5:55 p.m. A retired carpenter, Mr. Freeman has lived in Lakeland for the last 27 years.  >  Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Florence Freeman, of Lakeland; 4 sons, Wilton Freeman of Liberty, S.C., Lewis R. Freeman of Fort Pierce, David D. and Marvin F. Freeman both of Lakeland; 2 daughters; Mrs. Gracie Shiver and Mrs. Bessie Costine, both of Lakeland; 4 brothers, Frank Freeman of Sale City, Ga., Jim Freeman of Anderson, Ga., Leonard Freeman of Greenville, S.C., and Walter Freeman of California; 27 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Bethel Baptist Church Friday at 3, The Rev. Bascom Sutton will officiate.  Interment will be in Socrum Cemetery, Snook Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
DORMAN, GERALDINE  "SHORTIE" - 87 - Julio's Sandwich Shop
Mrs Geraldine Dorman died on August 12, 2011 of complications from sepsis at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale. She was born on November 29, 1923 in Socrum and was a lifelong resident of Lakeland. Per her request, there will be no memorial, but she will be memorialized every day by those that knew and loved her.  Mrs Dorman is the daughter of the late Clifford Cason and Pearl Chism Cason. Some of her favorite things to do was listen to country music, watch Patrick Swayze and anything at all to do with Elvis Presley. She has worked most of her life, with the last 25 years being at Julio's Sandwich Shop where customers asked for her if she wasn't at the order window. - Mrs Dorman was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed. > > Mrs Dorman was preceded in death by her husband Henry (Buck) Dorman, sons Robert (Bobby), Michael (Mike) Dorman, sisters Betty Cason, Lovie Cason Moore and Judy Cason Welch, brothers Junior, Alford, Leroy and Virgil Cason.

Edward was a lifelong resident of the Providence section, he died Friday, Feb. 25, 1955, at 2:p.m. at the Bartow Hospital. Edward was at one time Convict Captain of the Polk County Stockade.  > Survivors include 2 daughters, Mrs. Mabel Rapp of Reading, Pa. and Miss Ora Lee Mizell of Orlando, Fl. ; one son, Edward E. Mizell, Jr. stationed with the U.S.Navy at Boston; 1 brother, J. J. Mizell of Bartow, former Bartow Chief of Police; and 3 sisters; Mrs. Ida. Wilder , Mrs.Flossie Bryant and Mrs. Alice Wilder all of the Providence section.
 Services were held Sunday, Feb. 27, 1955 in the chapel of Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home with the Rev. G. C. Voyles officiating.  Interment followed in Socrum Cemetery. ( Ledger, Sunday, Feb. 27, 1955 )

 Funeral services for Edward Taylor, of Socrum, who died Thursday, Nov. 30, 1950, were held Friday, Dec. 1, 1950 at Bethel Baptist Church. The Rev. C. N. Walker, former pastor and the Rev. H. M. Wright, pastor, officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith sang 3 selections, accompanied by Miss Hattie Marks at the piano.  Pallbearers were, R. L. Bryant, M. L. Fletcher, S. C. Scales, Clinton Poppier, Kennith Hall and Hiram Roberts.  Interment was at Socrum Cemetery. Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 Funeral services for Mrs. Alvena Marie Bryant, who died at her home on Sunday, were held yesterday at Bethel Baptist Church, Socrum with the Rev. C. N. Walker, church pastor, assisted by the Rev. C. C. Hancock, officiating.
 Aquartet, Charles Bozeman, Frank Willis, Linton Selph and Ernest Selph, sang 3 numbers. They were accompanied by Quinton Hicks. Pallbearers were Clyde Hayman, Cecil Spears, Chalmen Jones, J. A. Fenton, Pete Johnson and Robert Butler.  Interment was at Socrum Cemetery under the direction of the Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home. 
SCARBOROUGH, NORMA J.  - 73 - City of Lakeland
LAKELAND - Norma J. Scarborough passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012 due to complications from Alzheimer's. Norma was born June 12, 1939 to Ernst and Gertrude (Dierks) GRUENBECK in Sebewaing, Michigan. The family moved to Polk County in 1945.  Norma graduated from Lakeland High School in 1957 and later moved to Hartford, Connecticut where she met and married Robert F. Lusa, Sr. in 1961. Norma, Bob and their four children moved to Lakeland in 1971. Norma was active in Xi Gamma Rho Sorority for many years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Norma retired from the City of Lakeland where she worked as a secretary. In 2000 Norma married Elmon Scarborough. > She was preceded in death by Robert F. Lusa, Sr. and Elmon R. Scarborough.  >  Norma is survived by her children, Joe Lusa of Lakeland, Laura Lusa of Roseburg Oregon, Peter (Joni) Lusa of Winter Haven and Robert (Shannon) Lusa of Lakeland; grandchildren, Robbie and Ryan Lusa; sisters, Laurie Gruenbeck of San Antonio, Texas and Donna (Ed) Blackburn of Darian, Georgia; and a brother Eugene (Margie) Gruenbeck of Fort McCoy, Florida. >A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012  at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Northside Chapel. Funeral services for Mrs. D. H. Sloan, Sr., longtime resident of Lakeland who made her home at 108 North Lake Ave., were held Friday afternoon at First Baptist Church. Mrs.Sloan died Wednesday night at Morrell Hospital after a brief illness.   The Rev. C. N. Walker, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, Socrum, officiated. Music for the service was furnished by Kirby Blain and M.E.Schauberger, vocal soloist, who were accompined by Mrs. B.H.Harnly.  Interment was in Socrum Cemetery. LAKELAND - John D. "JT" Thacker, 60, passed away July 10, 2011 after a long battle with cancer.
JT was born in Indiana, but moved here as a child. He graduated from Kathleen High School in 1968, served in the US Army during the Vietnam era, and went to work for the Post Office in 1974 where he was currently employed as a mail processor. He was a member of the former Lake Wire Baptist Church and was recently served the Lord at Boyette Springs Church of God. >  JT was preceded in death by his parents Charles, Sr. and Sarah Thacker and sister, Arlana Lynn Oliver.  >  He is survived by his wife of 40 years Pam; two daughters, Alisha (Billy) Taylor and Jennifer (Sherman) Gregory; six sisters, Phyllis (Claude) Grimes, Lucille (Chris) Armstrong, Margie (Darryl) Warren, Sally Williams, Rhonda McMullen and Shala (Jerry) Varnado; four brothers, Charles Jr. (Jane), James, Michael and Monte Thacker; five grandchildren, Clayton, Kristen, Cadie, Garrett and Gracie; and mother and father-in-law, Ginger and Bud Chestnut. > RAULERSON, DONALD EVERETT, Sr. - 82 - A True Fl., Cracker
LAKELAND - Donald Everett Raulerson, Sr. was called into the loving and healing arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the early morning hours of February 15, 2013. Donald succumbed to a rapid onset of cancer.  At  Donald's side in his home were his immediate family, his wife of 62 years, Ann Brown Raulerson; his son, Donald E. Raulerson, Jr.; and his daughters, Marsha Raulerson and Deborah Gackenback.  He was born on July 8th, 1930 in Lakeland, FL. > As a young lad, Donald herded cattle across the plains of the Green Swamp, and across the state of Florida, roping cattle and eating "hard tack" by the cook wagon. He was a true "Florida Cracker" and his stories from those days are family treasures. Donald's first career was in the USAF where he served in North Africa, England, Del Rio, TX, Tucson, AZ, Goose Bay Labrador, Canada, and Warner Robbins, GA. He retired from active duty in 1969. He then became a logger and carpenter/master builder, and worked as a Site Superintendent for Venture Construction Company for many years.
> Donald was proceeded in death by his Parents, Doris L. Raulerson and Samuel L. Raulerson.  > He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Brown Raulerson; son, Donald E. Raulerson Jr. (Judy) of Lakeland; daughters, Marsha Raulerson of Lakeland, Deborah Gackenback (John) of Sanford; and sister, Merlene Stalvey of Lakeland. Surviving adult grandchildren include John Robert Gackenback, and Lance Gackenback of Sanford, FL, Christina Cullipher Petty of Lakeland, FL, and Dr. Berkely Olvera (Toby) of Flagstaff, Az. Special mention to "adopted granddaughter" Amanda Lynn Carridad Ruiz. Donald E. LAKELAND - Hilda M. Ritter passed away Sat. March 16, 2013 due to heart failure. She was born in Oak Hill, FL and has lived in Lakeland all of her life. Hilda was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She worked in the cafeteria at Kathleen Jr. High for 10 years, but dedicated her life to caring for her 7 children. >  Hilda is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis E. Ritter, Sr.;sons, Lewis E. Ritter, Jr. and Mickey L. Ritter, Sr. > Survivors include, sons, Robert S. (Suzan) Ritter of Lakeland, Terry A. LAKELAND - James F. "Pete" Butler passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 due to natural causes. He was born December 7, 1924 in Lakeland, FL.   Pete served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a Fireman with the Lakeland Fire Department.

LAKELAND - Linda Fields Hurst went home to be with the Lord on Christmas Day due to a stroke. She was born August 18, 1937 in Tampa, FL but lived her entire life in Lakeland. She was a retired Polk County school teacher serving in various North Lakeland schools. She was a faithful member of Parkview Baptist Church and Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's sorority. >Survivors include her husband, Leslie W. Hurst, Jr. and two sons, CDR John Hurst (Debra) of Chesapeake, VA and Bruce Hurst (Kim) of Harrison, AR. Also survived by brothers, Charlie and Butch (Cindy) Harper, and sisters, Annette (Gene) Rogers, Judy (Weldon) Hood, Beverly Fullenkamp, Debbie (Steve) Carlton and Sandy Harper, in addition to five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.> Visitation will be held  with services beginning at 11 am, both at Parkview Baptist Church on Friday, December 28, 2012. Burial will be at Socrum Cemetery in Lakeland. LAKELAND - Dorothy Arlene Alford, passed away Wednesday October 2, 2013 from complications from Dementia. She was born December 11, 1930 in Lakeland, Florida and a lifelong resident. She worked at GTE and Watson Clinic until the birth of her son. She was also instrumental in obtaining the history of her pioneering family and Bethel Baptist Church. Arlene was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and heavily involved in the Providence and Socrum communities, and dedicated to her family. > She is preceded in death by her husband Richard A Alford, Sr. > She is survived by a daughter; Linda A. Dedmon Lakeland, FL; son Rick Alford Lakeland, FL; daughter Shari A. Carey Lakeland, FL; half-brother Bobby Costine Lakeland, FL; half-sister Shelley DiGiacomo Tampa, FL; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.   Visitation will be Friday, October 11, 2013 at Lanier Funeral Home Chapel. Janie Hall of Route 1, Plant City, died Sunday in a local hospital. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church. Janie was a native of Polk County, but had been a resident of East Hillsborough Co., for the last 60 years.
 >Janie is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Verna Bostick, Plant City; 2 sons, Otis Hall, Dade City and Olin Hall, High Springs; sisters, Mrs. Kate Norton, Miss Etta Sherrouse and Miss Nettie Sherrouse; 3 brothers, Luther, Leon, and Paul Sherrouse, all of Kathleen, 13 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. - Funeral Notice; > Funeral services were held same day as obit and notice- at the Bethany Baptist Church, the Rev. C. A. Tate, Rev. Walter Metheny and Rev. Harry G. Devane officiated. Interment was at Bethlehem Cemetery. The grand sons served as pallbearers. LAKELAND - Mr. Timothy Alterman Roberts,died of heart failure on Saturday (October 19, 2013). He was born in Lakeland on February 28, 1940, and retired from Publix after 28 years. He liked fishing and racing pigeons. He always enjoyed reading his bible at the kitchen table, where there will always be an open missed space for him.  > Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife Alice Marie Roberts; daughter Teresa Maye Laveri; brother John L. LAKELAND - Mrs. Johnnie Maye Lanier, died Thursday (November 7, 2013) from a stroke. Born in Midland City, AL, on December 31, 1923, Johnnie Maye came here from Bascom, FL, in 1945.  She was a secretary with the Public Works Department for the City of Lakeland. Johnnie Maye was a member and former Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church at the Mall. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 26, Past Worthy High Priestess of Bethlehem Shrine No. 9 and Worthy High Priestess of Lebanon Shrine No. 6 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and Past Royal Matron of Kathleen Court Order of the Amaranth. > Mrs. Lanier was preceded in death by her grandson Stephen Hileman. > Johnnie is survived by her husband Charles R. Lanier, Sr., Lakeland; daughter Cheryle (Walt) Webb, Lakeland; sons Rick (Susan) Lanier, Michael (Kathleen) Lanier, both of Lakeland; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild.  Visitation will be Sun., Nov. 10, 2013 at Lanier Funeral Home Chapel. Born Nov. 29, 1937, she was a lifelong resident of Lakeland. She was a certified nursing assistant. He was a mobile home transport driver for Lanier Home Transport. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
