BROOKSVILLE -- Mr. Elmer O. Martin of Brooksville, who has family in Bartow, died of heart failure Monday (May 26, 2003) at Brooksville Health Care Center. He was born in Laurel, Miss., on Aug. 12, 1914, he moved to Brooksville from Mississippi, many years ago. He was a citrus harvester and attended First Church of God. >Mr. Martin is survived by his sister-in-law, Hilda Martin Wise, Bartow. Services will be Thursday at the Moody Funeral home chapel. –

FORT MEADE - Mrs. Glenda Gillispie Mullins, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013 in Lakeland of heart failure. Mrs. Mullins was the daughter of Samuel and Mabel Gillispie, Sr., and she born June 7, 1936 in Fort Meade, FL where she resided her entire life. She worked for Badcock Home Furnishings in Fort Meade for many years, and also for Donald Duck Citrus Packing in Lake Wales. Mrs. Mullins was a member of Oak Park Baptist Church, Fort Meade and a graduate of Fort Meade High School, class of 1954.  Glenda Mullins was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Mullins; son, Richard G. FORT MEADE - Mr. Richard H. "Dickie" Mullins, 74, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at his home of heart failure. Born in Lakeland on November 29, 1933, Mr. Mullins was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade. He was a maintenance mechanic for Cargill phosphate mines. Mr. Mullins was a member of Oak Park Baptist Church, Fort Meade; Fort Meade High School graduate, class of 1954 and Fort Meade High School football player; Member of Fin and Feather; Member of Local Union of Phosphate Mines; Mr. Mullins was a Florida Gator fan, and love to fish, hunt, and spending time with all of his family. > Mr. Mullins was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Mullins and grandson, Tony Mullins.> He is survived by his wife, Glenda Gillispie Mullins, Fort Meade; son, Roderick (Rod) Mullins, Fort Meade; daughters Cynthia Mullins McQuien, and Holly Mullins Rawlins, both of Fort Meade; brother, Danny McKinney, Lakeland; sisters, Sally Camp, Lakeland, and Donna Schutz, Tennessee; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. FORT MEADE -- Mr. Richard Glenn Mullins was happiest outdoors.The outdoorsman and lifelong Polk County resident drowned at Surveyor's Lake near Alturas on Tuesday (Aug. 30, 2005) while doing one of the things he enjoyed most: fishing. "He was a very free person. He loved the outdoors, and he loved animals," said his son, Darrell Mullins of Fort Meade. Born in Bartow on Sept. 10, 1955, Mr. Mullins lived in Lakeland for about 10 years before moving to Fort Meade, where he went to school.  The taxidermist owned his own business, Hawks Taxidermy, for a while. He later worked as a welder and maintenance mechanic until an accident disabled him. In addition to fishing, Mr. Mullins enjoyed hunting."He was a big deer hunter and a really big hog hunter, but he loved to turkey hunt too," Mr. Mullins' son said. "For most of the year, he did the hog hunting. For his deer hunting, he liked to go to Ocala National Forest and spend a weekend in the cabin up there. "Mr. Mullins passed on his love of the outdoors to his three children. When he wasn't hunting or fishing, Mr. Mullins was helping his friends and family members."He helped everybody out," his son said. "He would wear himself down helping people to the maximum. . He helped everybody. Even if he didn't have it, he would give it.  "Mr. Mullins volunteered for the Peace River Wildlife and Refuge. He was a member of Cornerstone Church of God in Fort Meade. > In addition to his son, Darrell Mullins, Mr. Mullins is survived by another son, Guy Glenn Mullins, Fort Meade; daughter, Kimberly Mullins, Fort Meade; mother, Glenda Mullins, Fort Meade; father, Richard H. Mullins, Fort Meade; sisters, Holly Rawlins, Cindy McQuin, both of Fort Meade; brother, Rodrick E. Mullins, Daytona; four grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday at McLean Funeral Home, 306 E. FORT MEADE -- Mr. Clyde J. Filyaw of Fort Meade died of cancer Wednesday (April 21, 2004) at Bartow Memorial Hospital. He was born in Appalachia, Va., on Dec. 21, 1934, he came to Fort Meade from Virginia in 1964. He was a lineman for the city of Fort Meade. He also worked for Turfection Lawn Care. > Mr. Filyaw was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Filyaw. > He is survived by his brothers, Leonard Filyaw and Edward Filyaw, both of Fort Meade; and sister, Bernice Yeager, Marion, Ohio. FORT MEADE - Mr. Tullie Ray Jackson, Sr., passed away at his home in Fort Meade on January 1, 2014 from cancer. Mr. Jackson was born March 13, 1944 in Fort Meade, FL, and was the son of Tullie Edward and Mabel Adams Jackson. Mr. Jackson resided his entire life in Fort Meade where he graduated from Fort Meade High School, Class of 1962. He was a retired power lineman for Mosaic and of the Pentecostal faith. Mr. Jackson was an avid hunter and took pride in his family and his many friends. He is now resting in peace in the loving arms of our Savior. > He is survived by his loving wife of 49 1/2 years, Claudia J. FORT MEADE - Mrs. Claudia Johnson Jackson passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Bartow Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Jackson was born April 18, 1946 in Muncie, IN, and after moving to Fort Meade at a young age, she remained a lifelong resident and worked as an insurance agent for McBride Insurance of Fort Meade for over 30 years. Mrs. Jackson was a very faithful member of the Fort Meade First Assembly of God where she shared her voice talent and enjoyed singing during many worship services. She was also a former Sunday School teacher, and a member of Fort Meade High School graduating class of 1964.  >Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her parents, Beldon and Yvonne Johnson, and her loving husband Tullie Ray Jackson, Sr.  >She is survived by her son, Tullie Ray Jackson, Jr. and wife Gail, Fort Meade, FL; daughter, Patricia Jackson, Fort Meade, FL; brothers, David Johnson, Lakeland, FL and Lamont Johnson, Alva, FL; three grandchildren, Brandi Rae Richerson and husband Jeremy, Justin Ray Hendricks and wife Sierra, and Travis Ray Jackson; one great-grandchild, Jesse Richerson.

 Sharrona was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade- Born in Bartow, Sept. 24, 1957, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring. Mrs. Young studied nursing in Sydney, Australia, and was a labor and delivery nurse, as well as a homemaker. She was a former volunteer cheer coach of the Fort Meade Youth Football League. Mrs. Young attended the Eloise United Methodist Church. Her family remembers her as being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. > She was preceded in death by her father, James Allen Barnes. >Survivors include her husband, Jeffery Allan Young of Fort Meade; her sons, David Wallace of Fort Meade, Joshua Kasubaski of Wauchula, and Andy Throgmorton of Joplin, Mo.; a daughter, Kimberly Heather Spare of Fort Meade; her mother, Dorothy J. INDIANTOWN -  Mr. Robert Wayne Smith, passed away Tues., Aug. 5, 2014 in Stuart, FL of heart failure. Wayne was born in Fort Meade, FL on August 31, 1939 to William Louis and Minnie Lee Martin Smith, and was a longtime resident of Martin County.   He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and worked for First National Bank and American Bank for many years. >Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Robert Smith; sisters, Vera Mae Smith, Verna Lee Rhoden, and Ethel Lorette Smith; brothers, Clifford Louis Smith, Sr., William Raymond Smith and John Marvin Smith.
