LAKELAND -- Mrs. Betty McCalpin Miller of Lakeland died of heart and lung failure Aug. 15, 2003, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was born in Lakeland, she was a lifelong resident. She was a retired private duty certified nurse's assistant. She was a member of First Baptist Institutional Church in Lakeland where she was a former member of the choir. >Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie Miller. >She is survived by her mother, Lillian McCalpin, Lakeland; daughters, Patricia Miller, Veronica Miller, both of Lakeland, Phyllis Towns-Hamilton, Jacksonville; sisters, Claudette Moultrie, Luvilla Lewis, both of Lakeland; brother, Leon Martinez, Lakeland; two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 this evening at H.W. Oldham Funeral Home, Lakeland. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Institutional Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.-

LAKELAND - Lillian S. Mercer, of Lakeland, died March 20, 2010 due to heart failure. Lillian was born May 30, 1916 in Ft. Valley, GA to George and Stella (Dyes) Stillwell. >She was united in marriage in 1936 to her husband, Alton Mercer, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1990. >Lillian is also preceded in death by her two daughters, Frances Dunn and Lori Stevenson. (Lori was part owner of Speedys Bar) >She is survived by her sons, Alton (Glenda) Mercer, Jr., Roy (Linda) Mercer and George (Julie) Mercer all of Lakeland; her daughters, Peggy Causey and Stella Grunst both of Lakeland; sister Eva Murkeson; and her sister-in-law, Louise Stillwell of Lakeland; sixteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren also survive. Friends will be received Tuesday from 6-8pm at the Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes, Southside Chapel, Lakeland, where funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday. Interment will take place in Oak Hill Burial Park. - Ledger  Mar. 23, 2010.

LAKELAND - Mrs. Peggy Ruth Folsom died on May 26, 2020 at Lakeland RegionalHealth. She was born February 13, 1931 in Lakeland, Fl.  Peggy was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was employed by Lakeland General Hospital for many years prior to becoming a fulltime home maker. She was foremost a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a kind friend to many people. >Peggy is predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Hubert. >Survivors include her four children, Larry (Pamela), Glenn (Katherine), Kathy, Amy (Scott), six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the palliative care team at Lakeland Regional Health who provided such loving care to our mother during her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, Fl. 33823. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Oak Hill Burial Park. Due to Covid-19 Virus restrictions only 25 family members are allowed at graveside, but friends are welcome to come to the graveside service and stay close to their own vehicles during the service.
