FORT MEADE - Mr. John Glynn Bourn passed away Mon., July 15, 2013 in Lake Wales due to injuries sustained in an auto accident. John was born Sept. 21, 1979 in Bartow, FL, and was a longtime resident of Bowling Green before moving to Fort Meade. He worked for Duke Energy in Lake Wales as a substation electrician. John was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church of Fort Meade where he served as a deacon, sound technician, youth leader and remained very active in the church in any way that was needed. He was a graduate of Fort Meade High School, class of 1998, and during high school John was active in the band, FFA, golf team, baseball and football teams, and attended the American Legion Boys State. John was a coach for the Frostproof Dixie Youth Baseball teams, and was also a very avid fisherman and hunter. He played the role of father to many children other than his own, who needed his loving mannerisms to care for them. In his younger years, John also helped his parents in their family business, Farm and Home Hardware in Fort Meade. >John was preceded in death by his father, Alton Wheeler Bourn; maternal grandparents, William Everett and Dixie Lee Mott; paternal grandparents, Rev. John and Sadie Bourn, and several aunts and uncles. >He is survived by his loving wife, Amber Smith Bourn; sons, Hunter Alton Bourn and Colten Gauge Bourn; daughter, Brooke Aleise Bourn, all of Fort Meade, FL; mother, Jeanette M. BOWLING GREEN - Ernestine Bryant Burts of Bowling Green, died Saturday, January 13, 2007 in Wauchula of heart failure. Mrs. Burts was born May 8, 1913 in Bowling Green to the late Clarence and Ida (Blackburn) Bryant. >She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William Burts. Mrs. Burts returned to Bowling Green over twenty years ago from Ft. Meade, where she had lived forty years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church Bowling Green since 1923, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, Administrative Council and its secretary for twenty years, served on the building committee that built the present church, church secretary, and Sunday School teacher. She worked for the Polk County School Board, City of Ft. Meade, and retired from Peace River Electric Cooperative. >Survivors include her daughter, Ida Mary and husband Michael Spears, Bowling Green; brother Austin Bryant, Sarasota; sister-in-law, Norma Bryant, Sarasota; two grandchildren, Mary Shannon Haney, Kannapolis, NC, and Will Haney and wife Tennille, Venus, FL; and great-grandson, Hunter Little. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Bowling Green, with Pastor Steve Polk officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. FORT MEADE - Elsie Irene Cook, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Cook was born February 14, 1920, in Fort Meade, FL. She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Fort Meade. Elsie was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Meade. She was a member of the Joy Club and past choir member. She was a past Matron of the Eastern Star, Fort Meade Chapter 47. She also loved gardening, sewing & embroidery. >She was preceded in death by her husband Loyd Cook and infant son Loyd M. Cook. >She is survived by four daughters, Katherine Parrish (Joe), Marilyn Henderson, Laverne Layton (Charles) and Pauline Bass (Bill), sister, Yvonne Day (Harvey) and sister-in-law, Juanita Parker, seven grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her two dogs Happy & Bridget. Family will receive friends Saturday, April 18, 2015, from 10 to 11 am at the First Baptist Church of Fort Meade. Gillispie passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014, in Lakeland, FL. Mr. Gillispie was born September 18, 1938, in Fort Meade, FL, where he lived for many years through his life. He was the retired payroll supervisor for US Agri-Chem, a citrus grower, cattleman, and accountant for the Gillispie family business, Diamond Z Ranch, Inc.   Mr. Gillispie was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran, member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Fort Meade, a 1956 graduate of Fort Meade High School, and a 1960 graduate of Florida Southern College. >He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia V. Gillispie; parents, Zebbie and Ethel Hopson Gillispie; and brother, Zebbie L. She was born in Fort Meade on March 23, 1908, she was a lifelong resident. She was a homemaker and taught Sunday school for many years. FORT MEADE -- Mrs. Maudie B. Henry of Fort Meade died of lung failure Monday (Feb. 2, 2004) at Winter Haven Hospital. She was born in Fort Drum on Sept. 21, 1927, she came to Fort Meade at an early age. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol as a plane spotter during World War II. He was a long time resident of Ft Meade before moving to Eaton Park in 1964. He was a disabled Army vet of WW II. A life member of DAV.
