> SENA ETHEL BRYANT HALL - 86 - Homemaker
LAKELAND -- When Ethel Diane Ferrio was in high school, her mother, Mrs. Sena Hall of Lakeland, would go outside before school in the morning and pretend she was working in her garden. What Mrs. Hall was really doing was keeping watch over her teenage daughter, making sure nothing happened to her at the bus stop. When the bus came, Mrs. Hall would jump in her car and follow it to the school. At the end of the school day, Mrs. Hall would trail the bus for most of the ride to her home but would take a detour, getting to her house just minutes before her daughter arrived. Mrs. Hall, a woman whose life revolved around her children, died of heart failure Friday (Aug. 23, 2002) at her home. When Mrs. Hall died, Ferrio followed the van that transported her body to the funeral home. "I felt numb," Ferrio said. "I knew my mother knew I needed to do that to be able to cope. I've only cried once since then. "Mrs. Hall was born in Williamsburg, Ky., on April 16, 1916, and came to Lakeland from there in 1921. She was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith. Ferrio said she can still remember the smell of biscuits and salt bacon cooking on a wood stove, a Sunday morning specialty her mother would always prepare. Ferrio said her mother was a kind and caring person, a quality that humans and animals recognized. "She was the mother of every child she touched. She loved children. All animals, tame and wild loved her," Ferrio said. "She had a heart that went on and on. When she loved something she put her whole heart into it but still had plenty to share. ""She had no bad in her whatsoever," Ferrio said. "If her neighbor shot her dog, a few months later when her garden came up, she would take a bushel of greens over to her neighbor. >"Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her husband, Buster B.
