LAKELAND - Mr. Maxie Murrell Harrelson of Lakeland went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 6, 2013, due to natural causes.  He was born June 28, 1922 in Lakeland, Florida to Cecil Cleveland and Bessie Lee (Levy) Harrelson.  Mr. Harrelson worked for Polk County as a heavy equipment mechanic for 30 years. Maxie was also a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. > Maxie was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Geneva Harrelson and a brother Glenn Harrelson.>  Survivors include his 4 daughters, Belinda Palmer, Kathy Stiltner (Scott), Sandy Mallatt (Mike), Tina DuBose (Clarence); a brother, Wayne Harrelson; 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. The visitation will be today (Tuesday) at the Gentry-Morrison Northside Chapel (5245 US Hwy 98 North). Funeral services will be Wednesday at the Mt. Kathleen - Mrs. Ada Lee Bryant of Kathleen died Monday Jan. 19, 2004 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Ada was born in Palm Harbor on Jan. 11, 1928, she came to Kathleen from there in 1945. Ada was a custodian and daycare worker at Gibsonia Baptist Church. She was also a teacher for Mission Friends through the church. Ada was a Baptist.  >  Mrs. Bryant is survived by her husband, Jepp Bryant; son, Charlie Hammac, Lakeland; daughter Virginia Blewett, Lakleand; brothers, John Lauramoore, Arcansas, George Lauramoore, Michigan, Robert Lauramoore, Gainsville and Curtis Lauramoore, Minnesota; sisters, Patsy Alverez and Nancy Sharpe, both of Dade City, and Marie Catrett, Largo; 3 granddaughters and 7 great grandcildren.  Visitation was held on Thursday at David Russell Funeral Home. Services were held on Friday at Gibsonia Baptist Church. Burial was in Mount Tabor Cemetery. - Ledger,Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004.

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Effie M. Sands of Lakeland died of heart failure Sunday (Feb. 12, 2006) at home. Effie was born in Lakeland on Aug. 11, 1925, she was a lifelong resident. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Galloway Holiness Church. > Mrs. Sands is survived by her daughters, Pamela Mills, Sue Durrance, both of Lakeland; son, G.R. Sands, Lakeland; brothers, Jim O'Steen, Devare O'Steen, Hosie O'Steen, all of Lakeland; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at Mount Tabor Cemetery. LAKELAND - Mr. Gary Richard Sands, died of congestive heart failure Tuesday (October 29, 2013). Gary was  born in Lakeland on Oct. 14, 1946, Gary was a lifelong resident. He was a truck driver and attended services at North Lakeland Church of God. > Mr. Sands was preceded in death by his father Grady Eugene Sands; mother Effie Mae Sands; son Gabriel Ryan Sands. > He is survived by his wife Lillian Harrison Sands, Lakeland; son Gary R. Sands, Jr. (Lori), Punta Gorda, FL; daughters Natalie Sands Garvey, Rotonda, FL, Christine Bradley, Deland, FL; sisters Veronica Sue Durrance, Pamela C. Mills, both of Lakeland; brother Greg Barlow (Wanda), Nashville, TN; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

KATHLEEN - Jepp Bryant died July 26, 2012 at Wedgewood Healthcare due to complications from a stroke. Mr. Bryant was born in Lakeland and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was an Army veteran of WWII and was a member of Gibsonia Baptist Church, where he also retired from after serving as the maintenance man. > He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada L. Bryant and son, Jepp Marion "Rocky" Bryant, 6 brothers and 2 sisters. >  He is survived by son, Charlie (Tanya) Hammac; daughter, Virginia (Jim) Blewett; granddaughters, Denise (Guy) Sparks, Erika Smith, Sonya (Ryan) Wesner; 5 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.  A visitation will be held Monday at Lanier Funeral Home.  Robert Miles a pioneer resident of Polk Co., died this afternoon at 1:00 at his home on Cumbee Road. The funeral services will be conducted from Mt. Tabor Church tomorrow afternoon at 2:30, Rev. M. L. Gilbert officiating. Mr. Miles was a veteran of the Confederacy and was well known in this area.

LAKELAND - Mary "Polly" Cross, of Lakeland, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 due to natural causes. Polly was a lifelong resident of Lakeland, born on Feb. 1, 1925 to Edward and Eulilla (Reynolds) Suber. She graduated from Lakeland High School, and worked for a time at Florida Tile, and the offices of Dr. Clark and West. She then became a postal clerk, and worked for the Post Office for 20 years, retiring in the late 1980s. After retirement, she worked for Mail Processing until the late 1990s. She was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, and enjoyed bowling and "family time." > She is survived by her children, Wayne Cross (Laurie), Mark Cross (Sandy), Gail Turner, Vicki Stewart (Jim), Elaine Masters, and Shirley Cross; 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Friends are invited to the visitation on Monday, May 13,2013 at Mt. Tabor Church, with the funeral service following at 11 am. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery. LAKELAND - Mr. Glen M. Williamson, Sr. passed away due to cancer on Thursday, February 21, 2013, with his wife and kids by his side. Glen was born on January 30, 1948 to Berry and Audrey Williamson in Lakeland, FL. He attended Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. Glen was a truck driver for 39 years with 11 of them being for Republic Refuse. He retired from Republic Refuse in 2010. > Glen enjoyed spending time with family and his grandkids at family dinners. He also spent time wheeling and dealing in trailers and cars.
 He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Nathan and Delbert Williamson. > Glen is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty; son, Glen Jr. (Bobbi); 2 daughters, Betty Mae Bridges (Richard) and Glenda Smith (Steven); 3 brothers, Earl, Kenneth and Jerry Williamson; 3 sisters, Naoma Shiver, Linda Merritt and Mary Hadden; 8 grandchildren, Cindy Lou Fussell, Shaun Bridges, Joshua Bridges, Michael Bridges, Julie Bridges, Matthew Rourk, Heather Dawson and Kasie Smith and also 8 great-grandchildren. LAKELAND - Rev. James "Jimmy" Edward Walker, died of respiratory failure Tuesday (March 13, 2007). Born in Lakeland on Feb. 22, 1937, Rev. Jimmy was a lifelong resident of the Lakeland area and an Air Force veteran. Also a minister in the local area for 47 years, and the current minister at the Eastside Baptist Church in Lakeland. A beloved husband, father and grandfather, he was a dedicated man of God and he will be dearly missed. > Rev. Jimmy was preceded in death by his son, William Lee Walker, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Lorna L. Walker; sons, James E. Walker, Jr., Lake City, Scott Walker, Chiefland, Harold Walker, Troy, AL., James W. Walker, Lakeland; daughter, Marie Walker, Lakeland; brothers, Billy Ray Walker, Polk City, Lonnie Walker, Robert Walker, both of Tennessee, Harold Walker, Texas; sister, Mae Cruz, Lakeland; four grandsons; seven granddaughters; one great grandson. Mae Belle was born January 19, 1925, in Lakeland, FL to Charles and Ollie Barfield and has been a lifelong resident. >She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Bassford, Leola Courson (Don) and Janet Brown (Doug); son, Earl Walker (Jan); 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchildren. > She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thurston Walker; sons, Roy Thurston Walker and Dennis Thurston Walker, Brother: A.J.Allen Barfield.

LAKELAND - Mr. Council Audubon Brown passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 at his home due to heart failure.> Mr. Brown was born January 31, 1932 in Lakeland, Fl to Audubon and Lela Brown. He was a self-employed rancher, real estate broker and owned Brown's Auto Sales for 25 years. Mr. Brown attended the University of Florida prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army. > He was senior class president and co-captain of the football team at Kathleen High School, where he graduated in 1948. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and Kathleen Historical Society. > Mr. Brown was preceded in death by five siblings, James H. P. Brown, Clyde W. LAKELAND - Kevin Wayne 'Bear' Kessler of Lakeland died on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018.
He was born at Eglin Air Force Base to Wellington & Mary (Ballard) Kessler. Bear has lived in central Florida most of his life and enjoyed spending many hours riding his motorcycle and was most proud of his involvement and the many friends he gained through his membership with the Florida Riders Owner Group, where he was currently serving as President.  > He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Roger.  >Bear is survived by the love of his life, his wife Laritha of Lakeland, FL, son Kristipher (Misty) of Lakeland, FL, daughter Kristin (Robert) Blizzard of Plant City, FL, brother Neil of Lakeland, FL, his 6 grandchildren Dallas, Katiana, Savannah, Dawson, Jackson, and Joseph.

He was a dump truck driver. He was a Marine Corps reservist. He was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church. Mr. Kessler is survived by his wife, Elaine Kessler; sons,  Roger L. Kessler Jr., Tampa, and Edward Kessler, Freeport; daughter, Kathryn Stomberg, Fort Walton Beach; mother, Mary Kessler, Lakeland; brothers, Neil Kessler and Kevin Kessler, both of Lakeland; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He owned a mobile home moving company most of his life. LAKELAND -- Mr. Floyd Elwood Duvall of Lakeland died of complications following a stroke Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2005) at Highlands Lake Center in Lakeland. He was born in Marble, Ark., on May 22, 1922, he came to Lakeland from Blytheville, Ark., 52 years ago. He was a retired car salesman for Lakeland Ford. He was an Army veteran during the World War II era and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church. > Mr. Duvall is survived by his wife, Geneva Duvall; sons, David Duvall, Elwood Duvall, Ron Duvall, all of Lakeland; sisters, Polly Williams, Cynthia Duvall, both of Batesville, Ark., Martha Jane Holland, Hurst, Texas, Melba June Ray, Blytheville; brothers, George Duvall, Lakeland, Troy Duvall, Tulsa, Okla., Donald Duvall, Newark, Ohio; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. He was born in Mitchell County, Ga., on Sept. 16, 1932, he came to Lakeland from Sale City, Ga., 43 years ago. He was a welder at Royster Phosphate Mines for 20 years. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church. Mr. Shiver was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Hudgins Shiver. He is survived by his wife, Naoma Shiver; stepdaughter, Marilynn White, Lakeland; sons, Richard G. Shiver, Lakeland, Timothy C. She was born Sept. 28, 1917, in Lakeland, she was a former resident of Lakeland before moving to Tampa in 1949. She was an office manager for Bushnell Enterprise for 54 years. She was a member of Hyde Park Presbyterian Church. >Ms. Walker is survived by her brothers, John I.
