> HUBERT M. ANDERSON -  89 - Mulberry Police Force & Grocery Store Owner

MEDULLA -- Mr. Hubert M. Anderson worked closely with the citizens of Mulberry through his work on the Mulberry Police force and through Anderson's Grocery Store, a mom and pop grocery store that he and his wife owned and operated for a number of years. "At one time, he knew everybody that lived in Mulberry," his son, Max Anderson, of Puerto Rico said. The lifelong resident of the area died of pancreatic cancer Thursday (Dec. 22, 2005) at home. He was born on Feb. 27, 1916, in Chicora and grew up on a farm there. "He used to tell me he wasn't a cowboy, he was a cow hunter; a young teenager working with his dad on the farm and they would go out and hunt cows," Max Anderson said. Mr. Anderson served on the Florida Militia before he served with the Merchant Marines in World War II. He moved to Mulberry from Chicora where he opened his grocery store that was located on East Canal Street in Mulberry, and he and his wife ran the business together for many years before selling it. "My brother at one time worked for him at the store, and I worked there as a bag boy," Max Anderson said. Mr. Anderson joined the Mulberry Police Department, where he was a sergeant on the force. He later retired as a security guard for IMC. Mr. Anderson had an interest in electronics and ham radios, and he was an experienced marksman. He also enjoyed fishing for freshwater bass. He was a Christian.> Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Louise Anderson, in 2001. In addition to his son, Max Anderson, he is survived by his sisters, Mabel Durrance, Medulla, Lucile McLaulin, Lawrenceville, Ga.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-greatgrandchildren. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 this morning at Seigler Funeral Home, Highway 60 E., Mulberry. Services will follow at 10 at the funeral home chapel. LAKELAND - Billy R. Adams died November 18, 2011 at home of heart failure. Billy was born on May 14, 1930 in Adamsville, Fl. to Paul G. & Hazel (Davis) Adams. Billy moved to Lakeland from Bartow 54 years ago. Billy was a millwright, devoted family man and avid hunter, a member of Ardella Baptist Church.  >Billy is survived by his wife of 54 years Libby Adams, daughters Elaine (Johnny) Bowman, Sherian (James) Albritton, son Ken (Donna) Adams, six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, brother's Leon & Carl Adams, sister Elva Elwell. MULBERRY - Mrs. Rosa Lee Armstrong of Mulberry, FL, died Aug. 16, 2011 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center from heart failure. She was born in Tallahassee, FL, on Aug. 20, 1927. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel M.B. Church, Mulberry. >Mrs. Armstrong was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lu Armstrong, Sr. >She is survived by daughters Linda Armstrong Nelson (Robert), Snellville, GA, Mae Childs (Alvin) Lakeland, FL; sons Johnny Armstrong Mulberry, FL, Samuel Armstrong (Doris), Bartow, FL, Billy Armstrong Lakeland FL, Julian Armstrong Sr. (Melissa) Mulberry; sister Evelyn Grant Tallahassee, FL; 25 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren. LAKE WALES - Wynell Clara Alderman passed away May 12, 2020 at AdventHealth Lake Wales. Mrs. Alderman was born in Nichols, FL, on September 7, 1938, to George W. & Clara (Shepherd) Layton. She moved from Willow Oak to Lake Wales one year ago. She was a C.N.A. and of the Baptist faith. >She is preceded in death by her grandson: Trey Burnside. >She is survived by her sons: Chuck (Cindy) Alderman, Kevin Alderman, Mark (Robin) Alderman, daughter: Terrie (Marty) Townson, 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; sisters Vondeen Kiger, Bonnie Craig and brother Donald Layton. Graveside services will be held Friday: May 15, 2020 at 12:00 P.M. at Fitzgerald Cemetery. LAKELAND - Virgil Clair Wilkerson passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at Lakeland Regional Health. He was born in Plant City on January 21, 1928. He was a lifelong resident of the Lakeland area. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and barbered for 40 plus years, most of which were at Brown's Barber Shop in Mulberry. Virgil was an active member of Ardella Baptist Church for over 50 years. He was also the trustee and primary caretaker of Fitzgerald Cemetery. >Virgil was preceded in death by his (first wife) of 56 years, Peggy; # 2 wife Berta; and great grandson Noah. >He is survived by son Michael (Patty) Wilkerson, daughter Sharon (Barry) Johnson, daughter Lynda Wilkerson; grandchildren Missy, Jennifer, Todd (Wendy), Rusty (Heidi), Amanda, Christopher (Sarah), Lisa; great grandchildren Rae, Tyler, BreAnna, Madi, Kye, and was looking forward to two more on the way. The family will receive friends Monday, January 6, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Seigler Funeral Home, 1300 Hwy. 60 E., Mulberry. DUCK HILL, Miss. -- Mr. Fred McArthur Temples of Duck Hill, Miss., formerly of Lakeland, died Sunday (Sept. 22, 2002) of injuries sustained in an auto accident in Duck Hill. He was born in Lakeland on Dec. 1, 1942, he moved to Duck Hill from Blountstown 10 years ago. He was a Marine Corps veteran and a Merchant Marine for 10 years.

He was a maintenance mechanic for W.R. Grace. He was an Army veteran.
