JOHN LOGAN - Served as Sheriff of Polk County for 16 years- 4 terms. John was a native of Alabama who spent several years in  Indian Territory in the West before moving to Lakeland, during the Spanish-American War.
John returned to Alabama in about 1898 where he worked as a foreman of a large farm, he also worked as a census enumerator.
Mr. Logan returned to Lakeland in 1903 with his bride, Elizabeth Lyles and worked for 2 years as a carpenter before being named Police Chief, in about 1905.
John Logan was elected sheriff  3 years later and filled this post for 4 full terms, Sheriff Logan very rarely carried a weapon of any kind and it is a matter of record that when he pursued a criminal he got him with minimal display of authority,  he retired after his last term because of his health.
