JACK H. ALFORD -  68 -  City Fire Chief Retired
LAKELAND - Chief Jack H . Alford died on December 29, 2006, from an aneurism. Born in Cedar Key, FL on February 13, 1938 and resided there until age 7. The family moved to Lakeland where he graduated from Lakeland High School. He was an all star athlete in football and baseball.
 He joined the Lakeland Fire Department in 1961. He continued working for the Fire Department until he retired in December of 1993 as Fire Chief. He was a member of St. Joseph Church. Throughout his career he served on the Lakeland Community Credit Union Board for 18 years; served on the Lakeland Civil Service Board; St. Joseph School Board and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Lakeland, St. Joseph Chapter 2506. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, sailing and spending part time at his WeekiWachee home.
 He is survived by wife, Joan; son A.J. & wife Barb Alford of Orlando; sister, Janice Mitchell of Lakeland; 3 brothers, Ray Alford of The Villages, FL, Wayne Alford, Glenn Alford of Lakeland.
 Visitation will be held at Lakeland Funeral Home, 2125 S Bartow Hwy on January 9, 2007. Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 10:00 AM.
