Bernice Edward Whidden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Whidden, and a life time resident of Polk County and this vicinity, having been born near Eloise 37 years ago, died Friday at the Veterans Hospital at St. Petersburg.
 He had not been in good health since the World War and about three weeks ago went for treatment. Pneumonia developed, and he passed away Friday night. His serious illness had lasted but a few days.  
 Mr. Whidden leaves behind a wife and three children, a boy and two girls, to mourn his loss. He comes of one of the pioneer families of Polk County.
 The funeral service of Bernice Whidden who died Friday night at the Veterans' Hospital at St. Petersburg was held Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Whidden.
 It was one of the largest attended funerals in Lake Wales for some time, as the deceased was well known throughout the county, where he had lived his entire life.
