ELAINE WOLFSON – 87 – W. W. Wolfson Pharmacist

LAKELAND - Elaine Miriam Grossman Wolfson passed away Tuesday, 09/01/09 due to respiratory failure. She was 87.
 Elaine Wolfson was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 11, 1922. Her parents were Benjamin Grossman and Sophie Moses Grossman. She graduated from P.S. 153 and James Madison High School in 1938 and the Merchants and Bankers Business and Secretarial School in 1939 with a 97% grade point average.
 She was awarded a citation by the United States Treasury for her patriotic participation in the war-financing program of World War II in 1944. She also received a citation from the American Woman's Voluntary Service for her contribution to the war effort.
Mrs. Wolfson was employed by Bleishroeder, Bing & Company, a world-wide insurance brokerage firm in New York City.
 She married Wilfred W. Wolfson in 1946 and they returned to Lakeland in 1947. In three weeks, they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
 She helped her husband open their first W.W. WOLFSON, Pharmacist, at 1211 South Florida Avenue, in 1953; their second pharmacy at 1401 Lakeland Hills Boulevard in 1955; their third pharmacy at 2518 South Florida Avenue in 1958; and the Prescription Center in the Clark & Daughtery Medical Center at 130 West Pablo Street.
 In 1989 they merged their pharmacy operation into the Publix Super Markets system and retired.
Mrs. Wolfson was very active in Temple Emanuel Sisterhood and the Polk County Chapter of Hadassah and was a Life Member of Hadassah National. She was also very active in fund-raising for NGA (Needlework Guild of America) which supplied new clothes for needy school children.
 She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Sandra Berg, and grandson, Jeffrey Mirman of Rockville, Maryland; and her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Lili Wolfson who are "living their dream" of sailing around the world in their 48 foot sailboat the "Liward".
 Funeral Services will be held on Friday September 4, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Temple Emanuel, 600 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland, Florida.
Interment will be in the Wolfson Family plot in Temple Emanuel Cemetery.
