LAKELAND - Hobson Lee Strain Jr. was born December 5, 1932 in Lakeland, FL and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. > He was preceded in death by his first wife Anne Keef Strain, his sister; Virginia Strain Corley, and his stepson: Hoyt Ives Goodrich.  > He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Susan Hoyt Strain, 7 children, 3 stepsons, and 12 grandchildren.
 Upon graduation from Lakeland Senior High School in 1951, Hobson attended the University of Florida where he received his Bachelors degree in Accounting.
> After college, Hobson returned to Lakeland and went to work in the Tax Collector's office and in 1964 was elected the Polk County Tax Collector, then re-elected 7 times, becoming the longest serving Tax Collector in Polk County history.
> Hobson enjoyed spending time both with his children and grandchildren, telling them his many stories and the history of Lakeland. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved to travel, exploring 6 of the 7 continents with his wife Sue and making many friends the world over. Everybody loved Hobson.
