POLK CITY – Joseph P. Bridges a resident of Green Pond, died Friday night at a Lakeland nursing home after a long illness. He was a retired farmer and had lived most of life in Polk County. He was a member of the Mt. Enon Primitive Baptist Church.
 Survivors include a son, Willie Bridges of Davenport; a sister, Mrs. Nelia Sloan of Groveland; three brothers, the Rev. W. P. Bridges of Polk City, Charles of Groveland and W. M. of Clermont; and one grandchild.
 Services will be held this afternoon at 2:20 at the Green Pond Baptist Church, with Elder I. C. David officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ray Kirkland, pastor of the Bay Lake Baptist Church.  Wilma is survived by her daughter Reba Bryant, son, Edward Bridges (wife Jennie), grandchildren, Anthony Bryant, Christopher Bryant, Deborah Bryant, Eric Bridges, Matthew Bridges, great grandchildren, Christy, Dylan, and Miranda. WINTER HAVEN - Michael Anthony Cavanaugh, died of heart failure Tuesday (April 13, 2010). Born on Oct. 26,1940, in Lakeland, FL., he was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a retired warehouseman for U.S. Food Service in Lakeland.
 Mr. Cavanaugh was preceded in death by his wife Aileen Cavanaugh.
 He is survived by his son Shawn Cavanaugh and wife Phyllis, Winter Haven; daughter Kelley Shannon Taylor, Lakeland; grandson Trey Michael Taylor, Mulberry.

Born in Evansville, Ind., he came to Clermont from Orlando 18 years ago. He was a safety director for Ferran Services and Contracting. He was a member of several safety councils and the Green Pond Baptist Church, Polk City.
 Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife, Terri Ann Brooks; daughters, Wendie Sue Klem, Apopka, Michelle Renee Browder, Polk City; mother, Clara Brooks, Clermont; sister, Carrol McKinnon, Brownstone, Mich.; brother, Ron Brooks, West Palm; and four grandchildren.

LAKELAND - Leon Wallace Matthews, passed away from natural causes on September 10, 2012. He was born on April 13, 1917 in Battle Creek, MI and came to the area from Battle Creek in the 70 's. Leon worked as a machine operator. He retired from Kellog's, was a member of Green Pond Baptist Church and was very proud of being a Volunteer Fireman in Battle Creek.
 He is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Arleta Matthews and 2nd wife, Juanita Matthews.
 Leon is survived by his daughter, Dora Hagan, Springfield, MI; step sons, Paul (Connie) Wren, Polk City, FL, Drystal (Pat) Wren, Auburndale, FL; step daughter, Teri Pelkey, Polk City, FL; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 She is preceded in death by her husband Paul C. Wren Sr.

 She was preceded in death by her husbands E.H. Boyett & James Melbourne Knight; son Johnny Ray Boyett; sister Oletta Sanderson & brother J.H. POLK CITY - Betty Ruth Judy, age 79, of Polk City, Florida went to be with the Lord at 10:10 A.M., Saturday, May 1, 2010 at her residence of heart failure. She was born August 28, 1930 in Polk County, Florida to Chester & Martha (Judy) Tyer. She was a life long member of Green Pond Baptist Church.
 Betty loved blue grass gospel music, played the guitar and loved to sing. She loved flowers and spent many hours in her yard. When she wasn't working at Kraft Foods as a Sectionizer, she was a Homemaker taking care of her family. She was married to Ellis Judy.
 She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Richard Judy and 2 grand daughters: Baby Mae Judy and Angela Jane Ruppert.
 She is survived by 1 son, Larry Judy; 2 daughters, Linda (Paul) Ruppert and Sandra (Dale) Boyett all of Polk City; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

POLK CITY - Mrs. Freida Combee Massey, of Polk City went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in Lakeland due to cancer. Mrs. Massey was a lifelong resident of Polk County and a lifetime member of Green Pond Baptist Church where she was very active serving as church clerk, a choir member and overseeing the operations of the cemetery. She was a 1962 graduate from Auburndale High School and enjoyed traveling.
 Mrs. Massey was a retired sales clerk with Sears and was preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands, a son, Steven, a daughter Teresa and brother Dennis Combee.

She was born east of Polk City in 1885 and had been a resident of Polk Co., all her life. For the past few years she made her home in the Socrum area. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist hurch and formerly of the Richland Baptist Church near Dade City.
 Survivors include her husband, Byhew ( Bihue ) Goodman of Haines City; 3 sons, Everett of Tampa, Leslie of Lakeland and Willis of Hawthorne, Calif.; 6 daughters, Mrs. Dollie Tillman of Wauchula, Mrs. Lucille Bragg of Tampa, Mrs. Mrs. Margaret Waters of Haines City, Mrs. Eunice Costine of Lakeland, Mrs. Joyce Sherrouse of Lakeland and Mrs. Gladys Mixon of Micanopy; 3 brothers, John Rutledge of Jacksonville, Elija Rutledge of Lakeland and Ed Rutledge of Auburndale; 4 sisters, Mrs. Lena Hughes of Winter Haven, Mrs. Daisy Boulware of McIntosh, Mrs. Lizzie Bowen of Clermont and Mrs. Linda Turner of Auburndale; 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
 Services will be held tomorrow at Green Pond Baptist Church with the Rev. T. F. O'Steen of Lakeland and the Rev. James Sutley, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church of Socrum, officiating. Dave Lane Funeral Home will direct arrangements. Burial will be at Green Pond Cemetery

 Haines City- Bihue Goodman of Rt. 1, Baker Avenue, died at the Heart of Florida Hospital Saturday after a long illness. He was a native of Loughman and had made his home here for 10 years, coming from the Socrum area. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Little Zion Primative Baptist Church of Davenport.
 Survivors include 3 sons. J. E. of Tampa, L. A.  of Lakeland and J. W. of Los Angeles, Calif.; 6 daughters, Mrs. Dolly Tillman of Wauchula, Mrs. Lucille Bragg of Tampa, Mrs. Margaret Waters of Haines City, Mrs. Eunice West of Lakeland, Mrs. Gladys Mixon of Micanopy and Mrs. Joyce Sherrouse of Lakeland; 2 brothers, Robert Goodman of Loughman and Roundtree Goodman of Crystal River; 5 sisters, Mrs. Emma Kirkland of Naples, Mrs. A. Walker of Arcadia, Mrs. Axie Parrish of Lakeland and Mrs. Grace Jones and Mary Turner both of Loughman; 23 grandchildren and a number of Great-grandchildren and Great-great-grandchildren.

LAKELAND - Robin "Rob" Adair, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011. The cause of death is pending. He is survived by his children, Nancy Adair Cleaveland (Michael) and Danny Adair (Erica); his grandchildren Lane Adair and Alexis Adair; his parents, Charles and Nancy Adair; his brothers, Phillip Adair (Linda) and Cullen Adair (Cindy); his sisters, Tracy Beavers (Michael) and Lynn Arthur; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Green Pond Baptist Church, 5995 Green Pond Church Road, Polk City, Florida. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. - Ledger, Oct. 13, 2011 - not sure if he is buried in GreenPond Cemetery.
