MARVIN PEYTON WHITE, Sr. – 95 -  Retired-Draper Furniture Store
LAKE WALES - Marvin Peyton White, Sr., of Lake Wales, Florida, died on Thursday, January 15, 2015. Marvin was born on March 5, 1919, beside the fireplace at the family farmhouse on Sugar Run Road near Sunbury, North Carolina.
 After serving his country in the Army Air Corps, during World War II, Marvin was mustered out of the service at Avon Park, FL. It was during this time that he met a young Lake Wales school teacher, Martha Whitehurst, which led to 65 years of marriage.
 He was a retired sales representative for Draper Furniture Store and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a charter member and past president of the Lake Wales Lion's Club, early member and past president of the Passion Play Board, Chairman of the Lake Wales Red Cross for many years.
> He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Martha Whitehurst White, brothers, Gerald Stedham White and Forrest White, and sister, Elizabeth Stuber.
> Survivors include his sons, Peyton White and wife, Emily of Orangeburg, SC, Norman White and wife, Elaine of St. Augustine, Stephen White and wife, Wendy of Lake Wales, Gregory White and wife, Tammy of Birmingham, AL, Andy White of Vero Beach, brother, Gerald F. White of Elizabeth City, NC, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 18, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Kantz officiating.
 Visitation will be on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place on Monday, January 19, 2015, at Lake Wales Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Vitas Hospice (6850 New Tampa Highway, Suite 600, Lakeland, FL, 33815). LAKE WALES - Martha Louise Whitehurst White, of Lake Wales, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 due to heart failure. She was born in Lake Wales and lived in the community her entire life.  Her grandfather, C.L. Johnson, was one of the town's founders. >She was preceded in death by her parents, Irene Johnson Whitehurst and Joseph Slaughter Whitehurst, and by her brother, George L. Whitehurst.
> To recognize her family's accomplishments, Martha and her brother, George, were honored as Lake Wales Pioneers of the Year in 2003.
 She was a graduate of Lake Wales High School Martha taught English and Literature in the Lake Wales Public Schoolsand Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University). for many years. A member of the Lake Wales United Methodist Church, she was active in the church's women's circle program and was one of the founders of the church pre-school program which is still active today. She was also one of the Trustees of the Lake Wales Library when it developed the present library facility.
> She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Marvin P. White; and their five sons, Peyton and Emily White of Orangeburg, SC, Norman and Elaine White and Stephen and Wendy White of Lake Wales, FL, Gregory and Tammy White of Birmingham, AL, and Andy and Sara White of Vero Beach, FL. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Other survivors are her sisters, Joann Phillips of Jacksonville, FL and Thalia Hiers of Lake Wales, FL.
 The family will receive friends Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, September 18, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Lake Wales with Rev. Jeffery Kantz officiating.
 Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, 230 North 5th Street, Lake Wales, FL 33853.
