Karen was born August 12, 1956 in Plant City, FL. and she moved to Fort Meade in 1976. She worked for the Polk County School Board, and she was a member of First Baptist Church, Fort Meade. FORT MEADE - Mrs. Janet Davis passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014, in Winter Haven, FL, of heart failure. Mrs. Davis was born January 2, 1930, in Fort Meade, FL, where she remained a lifelong resident. She was a loving mother and wife, and devoted herself to making a home for her family. Mrs. Davis was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fort Meade, member of Fort Meade Garden Club, Fort Meade Historical Society, and she was a graduate of Fort Meade High School, class of 1948.   > Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Richard H. FORT MEADE - Mr. Richard H. "Dick" Davis, passed away at his home Tues., August 13, 2013 of heart failure. Dick was born in Bloomington, IN on February 1, 1927 and moved to Fort Meade with his family in 1941. He graduated from Fort Meade High School in 1944 and then went on to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard. During his tenure in the U.S. Coast Guard, Dick was proud to serve his country and have the benefit of sailing around the world. After Dick returned home, he worked at the Hardee County Feed Store in Wauchula and then in his family business in Fort Meade, Davis Ford Co. Dick's love for sports gave him the opportunity to be a former Fort Meade Little League Baseball coach for the Dogie team. He was also an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed spending time on his airboat with friends. Dick continued his family legacy and went on to be an entrepreneur as a Citrus Grower and Cattleman. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Meade where he was very active in many facets and served as a deacon. > Dick was preceded in death by his father, William Lamar Davis, Sr., mother, Ivelo G. FORT MEADE - Mr. Donald Eugene Pollard, passed away Wed., October 17, 2012 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center of heart failure. Mr. Pollard was born in Frostproof, FL, on July 18, 1942 and was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade. He retired after 33 years as an electrical superintendent for Cargill Fertilizer. Mr. Pollard was a U.S. Navy veteran and graduate of Fort Meade High School, Class of 1960. FORT MEADE -- Mr. Winfred H. "Winkie" Siler Jr. of Fort Meade died of cancer Friday (March 5, 2005) at Lake Wales Medical Center, Lake Wales. He was born June 19, 1947, in Bartow, he was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Florida National Guard, serving in Vietnam. He was a welder and mechanic for IMC Phosphate and Estech Phosphate for 33 years. He was a member of UFCW Local 1625 and the First Baptist Church of Fort Meade. > Mr. Siler was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Siler. >He is survived by his sons, Thomas Siler and Jeffery Siler, both of Fort Meade; parents, Winfred and Rachel Siler Sr., Fort Meade; and five grandchildren.Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McLean Funeral Home, Fort Meade. FORT MEADE - Mrs. Burnell M. Lamb, passed away Sun., Feb. 28, 2010 in Lake Wales, FL of heart failure. Mrs. Lamb was born March 15, 1927 in Dothan, AL and moved to Fort Meade from Dothan in 1955. Mrs. Lamb was a homemaker, and member of Lake Buffum Baptist Church, Fort Meade. She was a former member of First Baptist Church, Fort Meade where she was a longtime Sunday School teacher and volunteer with many church and youth programs. She was very active with her children and their friends providing home cooked meals, making cheerleading outfits and prom dresses and being very active in each of their lives as a school volunteer. Mrs. Lamb was also the organizer of many church bar-b-q’s held at their family ranch. >Mrs. Lamb was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Bonnie R. OCALA -- Mrs. Macie Ward Lamb of Ocala, formerly of Fort Meade, died of natural causes associated with old age Wednesday (Aug. 3, 2005) at her daughter's home in Ocala. She was born in Chiefland on Dec. 23, 1899, she moved to Ocala from Fort Meade in 1998. She was a homemaker and formerly a schoolteacher. She was an Air Gold Star mother. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Fort Meade. > Mrs. Lamb was preceded in death by her husband, Pasco P. Lamb.> She is survived by her daughters, Roberta Wright, Ocala, Juanita Kahler, Shreveport, La.; sons, Melvin Lamb, Groveland, Doyle Lamb, Sebring, Vernon Lamb, Ocala; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren. Meade, Fl. She also graduated from Lakeland's Rochelle High School in 1963. LAKE WALES- Mrs. Theresa I. Lundquist, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 in Lakeland of heart failure. Mrs. Lundquist was born in Fort Meade, FL on August 20, 1928, and moved to Lake Wales from Miami in 1997. She was a homemaker and a longtime volunteer for the Dade County school system. Mrs. Lundquist was a graduate of Fort Meade High School, class of 1945, a graduate of Florida State University as a Journalism major, and Mrs. Lundquist was a member of the Alta Vista Presbyterian Church in North Miami, FL. She was a member of the Lake Wales Library Board, a member of the AAUW, and a longtime supporter of the Audubon Society.  > Mrs. Lundquist was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph J. and Mabel Stokes Sellers; husband, John L. FORT MEADE - Homer L. Adkins, passed away June 10, 2016 in Lakeland. Born October 11, 1931 in Enterprise, AL, he was the son of the late Ira Leroy and Annie Dovie (Horsley) Adkins. Homer was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in the Florida National Guard. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Meade where he previously taught the Men's Adult Sunday School Class. Mr. Adkins retired after being the Maintenance Coordinator for Polk General Hospital in Bartow. > Homer is preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Adkins. > He is survived by his #2- wife Catherine Duke Adkins of Fort Meade, his three children: Royce L. Adkins (Jane) of Lakeland, Kevin Adkins of Bartow, Beth Adkins Luckett (Bill) of Winter Haven, and his sister Annie L. Franz of Sidney, MT. FORT MEADE -- Mr. Ernest F. "Boe" Peavy of Fort Meade died of cancer Wednesday (July 20, 2005) at home. He was born in Bowling Green on Nov. 16, 1932, Mr. Peavy was a lifelong resident of the area. He worked as a school crossing guard in Fort Meade for the Polk County Sheriff's Office. He also worked as a pit operator at Estech for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 160 in Fort Meade. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Fort Meade. >Mr. Peavey is survived by his wife, Pearl P. Smith Peavey; sons, Earnest E. She was retired from Waverly Growers in Waverly, FL after working in their accounting dept. for 45 years. FORT MEADE - Mr. Richard Allen Fort passed away Saturday, November 15, 2008, at home, surrounded by his family due to heart failure. Born December 24, 1919, Mr. Fort was a native and life-long resident of Fort Meade, FL. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Meade, a member of American Legion Post #23, Fort Meade and he graduated from Fort Meade High School in 1937.   A member of the First Army Ranger class, Mr. Fort served in World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps, assigned to 101st airborne division, known as the "Screaming Eagles." He was a first lieutenant reconnaissance pilot.  Mr. Fort graduated with a pharmacy degree from the University of Florida in 1947. He owned Varn's Pharmacy, and was given a Fifty Year Award in 1997 by the Florida Pharmaceutical Association. He was also a citrus grower. > Mr. Fort is survived by his wife, Mary Varn Fort, his sons, Richard Fort, Jr. and his wife Melissa, of Fort Meade, Dr. Bob Fort and his wife Carol, of Fort Meade, Jim Fort and his wife Connie, of Jacksonville, FL, and his daughters, Mary Anne Whiteside and her husband Jack, of Anna Maria, FL., Betty L. He served in the Army during World War II.  He worked as an operator for Swift & Co. He attended First Baptist Church of Fort Meade. >Mr. Curry is survived by his wife, Leona Curry;  son, Daniel Curry, Lakeland; daughter, Theresa Keen, Fort Meade; sister, Hazel Ringer, Higdon, Ala.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
