She was born February 8, 1921 in Alden, Iowa, She was a Homemaker, a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church of Fort Meade. & husband Robert; two sons, Perry Northup & wife Melissa and Leonard E. Northup, Jr., two granddaughters, Amber Smith Bourn and Macy Northup; three grandsons, Eric Northup, Travis Smith and Chad Smith and eleven great grandchildren. BARTOW - James Thomas Northup,passed away Saturday, March 07, 2015, at his residence in Bartow. Mr. Northup was born April 11, 1929, in Bowling Green, FL. He was a master carpenter. Mr. Northup also enjoyed bowling, fishing, stained glass art, archeology and treasure hunting.>  He was preceded in death by his son James Northup and his great granddaughter Sheyenne Northup. >He is survived by his wife of 64 years Edith V. Northup of Bartow, daughter Vicky E. BARTOW - James "Jim" Northup, of Bartow went home to be with his Lord on Sunday Nov. 1, 2009 from Cancer. Jim was a native of Wauchula, Fl.  and a life long resident of the area. He worked in the phosphate industry and was employed with Mobil Mining and Minerals for twelve years. He was member of the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Ft. Meade and also a Navy Veteran. He was a amateur artist and enjoyed mechanics.>  He was preceded in death by a grandchild Sheyenne > and is survived by his parents James and Edith Northup of Bartow; loving wife Rosita "Rose" Northup of Bartow; two sons Jason Northup of Orlando and Jeremy Northup of CA; sister Vickie Masingill and husband Curtis of LA; four grandchildren Juliet, Anastasia, Oryana and Hailey. FORT MEADE - Leonard Earl Northup, Sr., of Fort Meade was born Jan. 9, 1921 in Old Hickory, TN, and died Tuesday, March 13, 2007 from cancer, at his residence. Mr. Northup was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade where he was a rancher, farmer and citrus grower. He was an active member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and song leader. He served in the Air Force during World War II as a Bomber Pilot and Flight Officer.  >He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Fern Northup of Fort Meade; daughter, Linda Smith of Fort Meade; two sons; Perry Northup of Fort Meade, Leonard Earl Northup, Jr. of Coleman, FL.; three sisters, Violet Bass and Pansey Shepard of Bartow, Ettie Parker of Orlando; brother, James Northup of Bartow; 5 grandchildren, Eric Northup of Coleman, FL., Amber Smith Bourn, Travis Smith, Chad Smith, and Macy Northup, all of Fort Meade; seven great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by McLean Funeral Home, 306 East Broadway, Fort Meade, FL. The Family will receive friends Thursday at McLean Funeral Home. WAUCHULA - Helen Morgan "Sweet Pea" Parker, passed away April 7, 2012 in Wauchula from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was a resident of Polk and Hardee counties for 80 years coming from Kentucky at the age of 13. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bowling Green and was a homemaker. > She is survived by two sons Jimmy Parker, and Johnny Parker and wife Donna, all of Bowling Green; one daughter, Kay Paris of Fort Meade; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and caretaker, Susie Cephus.  She was  >preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Doyle Parker, and 2 daughters-in-law Gayle Parker and Carroll Parker. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 10th at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Bowling Green, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. Rev. She was born in Pontotoc, Miss., on Nov. 30, 1916, she came to Fort Meade from Missouri 43 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Peace River Church of God. >Mrs. Parker is survived by her daughters, Clarene  Parker, Laura Smith, Shelbia  Reynolds, all of Fort Meade; son, Kenneth Parker, St. Petersburg; brother, Arnold Gray, Sylvester, Ga.; sister, Eunice Oxford, Sylvester; 34 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. LAKE WALES - Kate D. Baggett a long-time resident of Lake Wales, passed away December 5, 2016 at Life Care Center of Winter Haven.  Born July 19, 1926, in Jacksonville to the late Elton and Mary Dennette, Kate was a member of one of Florida's First Coast Pioneer families who settled on Fort George Island, Little and Big Talbot Islands. > Her lineage can be traced to a patriot of the American Revolution, qualifying her for membership in the DAR.  Kate graduated from Fort Meade High School in 1944 and was class salutatorian. Following graduation, she was a bookkeeper for Baggett Motor Company. > During World War II, she corresponded with the soldier she would later marry in 1946. She was a homemaker and mom before re-entering the workforce. Kate worked several years at Lake Wales Motor Parts before going to work at Ridge Fertilizer, retiring in 1988.  Kate loved traveling with her husband in their motor home. The couple made many lasting friendships during these years. She loved socializing and spending time with her family. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Lake Wales.>  In addition to her parents, Kate was preceded in death by her sister, Florida Amerson, brother, D.O. Houston and husband of 65 years, Elvis Baggett.  >She is survived by daughters Mary Kate Shell of Haines City and Linda (John) Glockner of Lake Wales; grandchildren Timothy Shell of Jacksonville, Katrina (Bob) Murphy of Lake Wales and Matthew (Christy) Glockner of Lake Wales and 7 great-grandchildren. LAKELAND - Robert M. O'Brien, "Obie" of Lakeland passed away on May 25, 2010 of respiratory failure. Obie was born in Ft. Meade, Fl in 1927 and was a graduate of Mulberry High and Florida Southern College. His lengthy business career began as post master in Nichols, FL and spanned various fields with him retiring as environmental consultant in the construction/ health care industry.  >He is survived by his wife of 58 years Virginia Evelyn; his sister Carroll Miller: his sons Robert Michael, John Kevin, and Paul Gregory; 4 grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews. LAKELAND - Mona Lee Green passed away peacefully Friday, October 27, 2017 surrounded by her family. Mona was born on July 16, 1932 in Fort Meade, Florida to Morris Rowell and Meda Albritton Rowell. Mona graduated from Summerlin Institute in Bartow where she was a cheerleader and glee club member. Mona was loved by her classmates, many of them remaining lifelong friends. She married Oliver Green, Jr., the love of her life, on September 3, 1960 at All Saints' Episcopal Church.  Mona enjoyed traveling and took many trips with Oliver and their three daughters, Jacki, Mary Catherine, and Miriam. Mona was active with the Campfire Girls for many years. She loved gardening and watching hummingbirds and butterflies that her gardens attracted. Mona and Oliver were PTA presidents seven times at five different schools. All Saints' Episcopal Church was a big part of their life. They were both very active members. Their three daughters were baptized there. After raising her children, >Mona received a Bachelor's degree in teaching from Florida Southern College. Thereafter, she taught at Highland City Elementary School and Scott Lake Elementary School. Her students always loved her, and she cared for them as if they were her own. Oliver frequently attended her class and helped her with projects. Her family and friends were particularly proud when the Tampa Tribune newspaper featured her in a glowing article about teachers, that was published on February 26, 1995. The unconditional love and support of her children and her husband had no boundary. Mona never met a stranger and had loyal friends that she cherished. Her smile and patience made her friends and family know her love. Mona was her husband's biggest supporter. She loved hosting Christmas parties and entertaining friends and colleagues at their home. Mona and Oliver were recognized by the Lakeland Bar Association in 2014 with the first Spirit of Giving Award. The annual award, which was also named in their honor, represented their years of dedication and commitment to their professions and the community.> Mona is survived by her husband Oliver. They were married for 57 years. She is also survived by their three daughters: Jacki Hill (Mike), Mary Catherine Green, and Miriam Patrice Green, three grandchildren, Allison Hill Hinkle (Dan), Michael Hill, Jr. and Margaret Mona Janutolo, two great grandchildren, Riley Abigail Hinkle and Grant Oliver Hinkle, Sister, Miriam Barrett (Archie), sisters in law Nancy Poole, Patricia Armistead and extended family members.> She is preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Estabrook, who met an untimely death in a military aircraft accident, and her parents, Morris and Meda Rowell. AUBURNDALE - Mr. Curtis Benny Young passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, FL. Mr. Young was born in Alturas, FL on February 11, 1940 and was a lifelong resident of Polk County. He was a retired industrial mechanic for Vigoro Industries and IMC Chemical and Fertilizer. Mr. Young grew up in Fort Meade and spent many of his younger years in the Lake Buffum area where his great-grandparents were some of the founding members of Lake Buffum Baptist Church. As a young man, he worked for Warren Griffis in the Fort Meade Barber Shop as a barber, graduated Fort Meade High School in 1958, and has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Meade for many years. >Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents, Benny Elijah Young and Ruth Campbell Young; grandson, Vince Young; brothers, Donald Young and Gerald Young; nephew, Doug Young; and brother-in-law, Tony Guthrie. >He is survived by is loving wife, Cynthia Darlene Young, Auburndale, FL; sons, Rick Young, Steve Young and wife Rose, all of Lakeland, FL, and Russell Neely, Chantilly, VA; brother, Ronald N. Mr. Kerst was born November 21, 1975 in Wauchula, FL, to William Bertloet and Barbara Ann (Pierce) Kerst. Billy was a lifetime Polk County resident and a United States Navy Veteran serving during the Iraq War. He was a Transportation Dispatcher for C & S Wholesales in Plant City which is a distributor for Winn Dixie and other grocery food chains. >He graduated from Ft. Meade High School class of 1993. Billy enjoyed football (Miami Hurricanes & Miami Dolphins), hunting, fishing, video games, going to Disney with his family and spending time with family & friends. >He was preceded in death by his mother; son Hunter James Kerst in 2015; brother William 'Wesley' Kerst; maternal grandmother Martha and paternal grandparents. >Billy is survived by his loving & devoted family: wife of 9 years, Darlene Kerst of Lakeland; daughter Courtney Kerst of Burhamsville, VA; son Zachary Kerst of Lakeland; William & Nancy Kerst of Frostproof; parents maternal grandfather James (Nancy) Pierce of Ft.
