He was a truck driver and a Navy Veteran of WWII. >He was preceded in death by his first wife Doris West of Bartow. > He is survived by his wife Berniece, a daughter Frances, stepsons; Harold and Carroll ; step-daughter's ; Linda, Ruby and Joanne; and 4 grandchildren. Alene was born in Fort Meade on Nov.20, 1937 and died Nov.24, 2006 at Brandy-wyne Health Care Center where she was in their care since 2001. Alene graduated Florida Southern College and began her teaching career in education in 1960 at Fort Meade Jr./Sr. High School, she retired 25 years later due to medical reasons. After teaching the majority of her career at Auburndale High School. > Alene was preceded in death by her second husband, Donald Weatherford.  >Survivors include her father Olma Hendrick; 1 sister Margy, a daughter Susan and a son Steven.; 1 grandchild.  Cecil was born Dec. 5, 1918 in Fort Mead,Florida and died Sept.30, 2006 at Cornerstone Hospice in Winter Haven,Fl. Cecil was a floatation foreman for Swift and Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ft.Meade. Cecil was an Army Veteran serving 3 years in the South Pacific.  >He is preceded in death by his wife Beatrice Sweat Williams.  >He is survived by brothers, Edward and W. R. Mrs. Jewel A. Bloomfield of Lakeland, died Tuesday ( July 18, 2000 ) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Born in Fort Meade on August 10, 1930, she came to Lakeland from there in 1951. Jewel worked with her husband  at their business, Bloomfield's Piano Shop, Lakeland. She was a 4-H volunteer and was on the 4-H Extension Advisory Board. She was a wedding cake decorator. >She is survived by her husband, Leonard W. Bloomfield; sons, Larry L., Kevin S. and Eddie D. Bloomfield; daughter , Constance J. brother; Herman Atwell, Ft.Meade. 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Graveside services at Oak Hill Burial Park, on U.S.98 South.

Fort Meade, Fl.- Stephen was a native of Fort Meade, Fl. He died Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Stephen was born Oct. 6, 1941. He served in the U.S.Army National Guard and was a Maintance Foreman for IMC Phosphate. He was the greatest role model for his children and grandchildren.  >He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia,; 3 daughters, Karen, Vickie and Stephanie; a son, Stephen D.,Jr.; 4 grandchildren, mother Alice and her husband, Buck; 3 sisters, Judy, Linda, and Juana; 3 brothers, Lloyd, Gayland and Johnny;.  A lifelong resident of Fort Meade- Born in Bartow, Sept. 24, 1957, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring. Mrs. Young studied nursing in Sydney, Australia, and was a labor and delivery nurse, as well as a homemaker. She was a former volunteer cheer coach of the Fort Meade Youth Football League. Mrs. Young attended the Eloise United Methodist Church. Her family remembers her as being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
 > She was preceded in death by her father, James Allen Barnes. >Survivors include her husband, Jeffery Allan Young of Fort Meade; her sons, David Wallace of Fort Meade, Joshua Kasubaski of Wauchula, and Andy Throgmorton of Joplin, Mo.; a daughter, Kimberly Heather Spare of Fort Meade; her mother, Dorothy J. > LOWERY, Ross O. - 84 - Retired CF Industries Chief Operator of Acid Plant
Ross of  Fort Meade, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at his residence.  Mr. Lowery was a lifelong resident of the area, he retired from CF Industries as chief operator of the acid plant.  Mr. Ross was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Bartow.  He was a World War II Navy veteran, participating in the Pacific theater. He was "a loving husband, father and grandpa," a family member said. > Survivors include his wife, Juanita Lowery of Fort Meade; four daughters, Dorene Cook and husband Steve of Seattle, Lesa Yates and husband Royce of Lakeland, Angela Lynch and husband Mike of Harpers Ferry, W.V., and Sandi Kretz and husband Mike of Atlanta; his former wife and mother of his children, Louise Lowery; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. > Visitation: Saturday, April 30, from 2-3 p.m. at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow. - Funeral: Saturday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. > BROOKS, Harold Brantley - 68 - Walmart Sporting Goods Dept.
Harold of Winter Haven, died April 24, 2011, at his home due to heart failure. Born July 8, 1942, in Fort Meade to David and Nannie Thomas Brooks, he was a lifelong resident of the area. Mr. Brooks was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was a sporting goods department manager for Walmart before retiring. He was a Protestant. 
>Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Darryl Brooks; and two brothers, Jack Brooks and Earl Cochran. > Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Pam; a daughter, Denise Staples of Palm Harbor; a brother, Herman Brooks of Lakeland; three sisters, Faye Garcia of Homeland, Betty Osteen of Bartow, and Lucy Hartwein of Fort Myers; and three grandchildren, Ashley DeLuca, Jason Brooks and Josh Brooks. > Visitation: Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven.

James Passed away,Thursday May 26, 2011 in Bartow. Born December 1, 1946 in Fort Meade, Dan was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Highland City. Mr. was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a deeply devoted Christian husband and father and loved spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Curry worked nearly 30 years for Land Span in Lakeland where he most recently was the Fleet Maintenance Coordinator. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ along with all of his family. He loved taking trips to the Smokey Mountains, traveling in his R.V., and attending and watching auto racing events.  >
 Mr. Curry is survived by a loving family that includes his wife of 42 years, Pam Curry of Bartow, his son Mark Curry and wife Holly of Bartow, his mother Leona W. Curry also of Bartow, his sister Theresa C. Keen and husband Cecil of Fort Meade, three grandchildren; Nathan Curry, Ashlyn Curry, Gage Albritton, and many members of extended family and friends. > The family will receive friends for a celebration of Mr. Curry's life on Tuesday, May 31st. at Crossroads Baptist Church, 6129 U.S. Highway 98 South in Highland City. A reception will follow the celebration in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Focus on the Family, Colorado Springs, CO 80995. Finally, the family request that friends and love ones continue with Dan's "pay it forward" attitude.

 Lakeland - Mrs. Geneva McCullough Mullins of Lakeland died, August 18, 2001 at Grace Healthcare of Lakeland. Geneva was born in Fort Meade, she came to Lakeland from there 80 years ago. Geneva was a cafeteria worker at Moorehead Public School  and Lincolln Avenue Elementart School and worked for the School Board for 18 years. She was a bookkeeper and a secretary for H. W. Oldham Funeral Home. She was a former member of New Mount Zion M. B. Church in Lakeland and attended  St. Mark U. M. E. Church. >  Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Dewey Mullins. > She is survived by her son, Richard Dewey Mullins, Pittsburg, Calif.; daughters, Frances M. Cooper, Dolores M. Brundidge; step-sister, Marie Jones;17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and 2  great-great- grandchildren. Visitation was held at St. Mark United  Methodist Churc. H. W. Aim'ee was born September 19, 1984 in Winter Haven, FL and was a longtime resident of Fort Meade. She was currently living in Calhoun, Ga. where she was working in the restaurant business. Fort Meade,Donald passed away at his home Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 of heart failure. Mr. Rogers was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on September 17, 1925 and moved to Fort Meade from Haines City, FL in 1962.  He was a retired Bank President with Flagship Bank and SunTrust Bank in Fort Meade, Fort Myers and Punta Gorda, FL. Mr. Rogers was a member of Christ Church Episcopal in Fort Meade, where he served as treasurer and also held many positions in the church locally and in the Episcopal Diocese. He was a WW II, U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in the South Pacific. Mr. Rogers was instrumental in helping organize the building of the new Frank S. Battle Football Field in Fort Meade. He was also a member of the Florida Flywheelers, Lions Club, and Florida Bankers Association. Mr. Rogers graduated from Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport, WV, Class of 1943. He then went on to graduate from Potomac State College in WV, and West Virginia Wesleyan State College in Buckhannon, WV where he played football and graduated in the class of 1950. Mr. Rogers also furthered his education graduating from The School of Banking of the South. > Mr.Rogers was preceded in death by his step-son, William G. Trask, two sisters and a brother.  Memorial services will be held Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at Christ Church Episcopal, 1 N. Cleveland Ave., Fort Meade with The Rev. James McConnell officiating. BARTOW - Luke Edward "Ed" Williams, passed away from natural causes Sunday, December 30, 2012 in Bartow. Born December 25, 1922 in Fort Meade, he was the son of the late W.R. and Asunda Williams. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Willams was an active member of the Bartow First Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion Post #3, and he was a member of the Masonic Tuscin Lodge #6 of Bartow. He also was a longtime member of the Bartow Lions Club.  > He is preceded in death by his daughter Connie L. Williams. > Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances L. Williams of Bartow, a son, Larry Williams of Lakeland, a daughter of Linda Holcomb and husband Ed of Lakeland, a special friend Stephen Garcia of Lakeland, a brother W.R. FORT MEADE - Mr. James A. "Jimmie" Parker, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at his home of heart failure. Jimmie was born on May 11, 1941 in Bowling Green, FL and was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade. He was the owner of Hydra-Lube Hydraulics in Fort Meade for 20 years, and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Fort Meade. Jimmie was a graduate of Fort Meade High School, Class of 1960, where he played football and baseball. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. Jimmie never met a stranger, and everyone loved his great sense of humor and his caring personality, especially his family of whom he was very devoted.  >Jimmie was preceded in death by his father, J.B. LAKELAND - Walta Lee Cherry, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 in Lakeland, Florida from heart failure.  Ms. Cherry was born in Fort Meade, Florida on May 20, 1919 to Walter and Oveda (Drawdy) Winegard. Ms. Cherry was a homemaker; she enjoyed cooking, gardening, taking pictures. She was kind hearted and always enjoyed taking care of others. She was a former member of the Women's Business Club, and she was a member of Florida Avenue Baptist Church. FORT MEADE -- Mr. Carl L. Daughtrey of Fort Meade died of liver failure Tuesday (March 15, 2005) at home. He was  born in Fort Ogden on May 10, 1931, Mr. Daughtrey came to Fort Meade from there 50 years ago. He was a supervisor for US AgriChemicals for 33 years and a member of the Training Union. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Meade, where he was a deacon. > Mr. Daughtrey is survived by his wife, Phyllis C. Daughtrey; sons, Stephen D. Daughtrey, Carl L. FORT MEADE - Mrs. Edith Lorraine Barwick, passed away Wed., February 27, 2013 in Zephyrhills, FL of heart failure.  Mrs. Barwick was born in Bartow, FL and moved to Fort Meade in 1956. She was a homemaker and member of the Cornerstone Church of God in Fort Meade. Along with raising her own family, Mrs. Barwick and her husband were foster parents to several children for nearly 25 years. She helped raise many children in Fort Meade, and was known as a great cook, seamstress, and keeping her home immaculate for her family and friends to enjoy. > Mrs. Barwick was preceded in death by her husband, N.W. FORT MEADE - Shirley Iris Carroll passed away from congestive heart failure on December 13, 2012.  Shirley was a resident of Fort Meade, Florida. She was born on May 8, 1933 in Oneco, Florida. She served with Polk County Transportation and as a manager at WBAR radio station. She enjoyed spending time with her family, camping and traveling in their motorhome.  > She is survived by her loving husband Herman Floyd Carroll, her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Paula Carroll of Riverview, FL, and Tim and Molly Carroll of Virginia Beach, VA, and by her four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.   A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 17th, 2012 at McLean Funeral Home, 306 E. BARTOW - Dorothy M. "Dot" Harrison,passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Bartow Regional Medical Center of heart failure.  Born November 26, 1932 in Fort Meade, FL, to O.C. & Mary Whidden Gramling. Mrs. Harrison was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a School Bus Driver for the Polk County Schools for over 40 years. She was a member of the Bartow First Assembly of God. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, She adored family time with her children, grandchildren, nephews & nieces.  >Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Cecil A. Charles A. "Bud" Mann, Jr., passed away from heart failure Wednesday June 20, 2012. Mr. Mann was born on November 9, 1924 in TigerBay, Florida. He was a member of the Bartow First Baptist Church and Peace River Country Club. Mr. Mann retired from the Florida Department of Agriculture where worked as an inspector. > He was preceded in death by his wife Martha Mann, son Tim Pitts, daughter Glennis Pitts, and brother Claude Mann.  >Mr. Mann is survived by his grandchildren; Denise L. Samuel Jacob Croft, died Sept. 8, 2010, at the VNA Hospice in Vero Beach. He was born in Fort Meade and lived in Vero Beach for 31 years, coming from Indiantown. Before retirement, he was a supervisor in the citrus industry. He served in the Marine Corps and survived the battle of Iwo Jima, going ashore on the first day of the invasion and not leaving until the battle had been won 36 days later. He was a member of the Vero Beach Marine Corps League. >Survivors include his sons, Samuel Croft, Melvin Croft and Julian Croft; daughters, Gail Winer and Beth Dozer; brothers, E.C., George and Mark; sister, Edna; and 11 grandchildren. > He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. She was born in Pine Bluff, Ark., on Nov. 15, 1909, she came to Fort Meade 90 years ago. She was a food service worker for the Polk County School Board. BARTOW - Wayne "Bunker" Hill, passed away from respiratory failure Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in Lakeland. Born February 18, 1929 in Fort Meade, he was the son of the late David Bennett Hill and Alice Hancock Hill. Mr. Hill attended the University of Florida and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He retired from IMC Phosphate in Bartow where he worked as a Float Gang Supervisor.  > Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth D. Hill and two sisters: Joyce Hill Harris and Iris Lavon Hill. >  He is survived by his son David Hill (Tina) of Bartow, Leah Snell (Wayne) of Homeland, brother Bob Hill (Janet) of Little Gasparilla Island, two grandchildren: Jodi Snell, Chris Snell (Tracy), and two great grandchildren: Paisley Snell, and Hunter Snell. FORT MEADE - Mr. Leamon T. Stokes, passed away Sun., Oct. 3, 2010 at The Parks Healthcare in Orlando of respiratory failure. Mr. Stokes was born June 12, 1935 in Lake Wales, FL and was a lifelong resident of the Fort Meade area. He was a well driller for Cannon and Sons Well Drilling, a U.S. Army National Guard veteran, and a member of Cornerstone Church of God. Mr. Stokes formerly worked with Swift & Co. as a welder and most currently, he was a route carrier for The Fort Meade Leader newspaper. He was past President of the "Mini-Miner" Football League, Bass Singer for the Straightway Quartet and a 1953 graduate of Summerlin Institute.   Mr. Stokes was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary Stokes and his brother, Wallace Stokes. > He is survived by his wife, Margie Ard Stokes, Fort Meade, FL; son, Mark R. TREASURE ISLAND - Lacey L. 'Sonny' McClellan, of Treasure Island, FL, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014, at his residence. Lacey was born June 10, 1936, in Fort Meade, FL. He graduated from Fort Meade High School, class of 1956 and served in the Air Force Reserve. Lacey attended Gupton-Jones Mortuary College in Texas and made his career as a licensed Funeral Director and Funeral Home Owner in Plant City, Fort Meade and surrounding areas. He was a member and past President of the Plant City Rotary Club and a longtime member of the Plant City Elks Club. She was born in Fort Meade on Dec. 12, 1913, she was a lifelong resident. She was a registered nurse for 44 years. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Fort Meade.

FORT MEADE - Mrs. Betty S. Grunholzer, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at her home of heart failure. Mrs. Grunholzer was born April 4, 1930 in Mulberry, FL and moved to Fort Meade many years ago from Medulla, FL. She started work many years ago as a beautician, and later became a homemaker to care for her family. As a member of New Life Baptist Church in Fort Meade, Mrs. Grunholzer was very active in her church, where she taught children's Sunday School and helped wherever she was needed. She was also a member of the Fort Meade Historical Society, a very active in the Fort Meade Miner's Booster Club, and a graduate of Mulberry High School Class of 1948.  >She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mildred Coleman Stephens, husband, James H. Grunholzer, Sr., and sister, Elizabeth Peters.  >  Mrs. Grunholzer is survived by her son, James H. Grunholzer, Jr. and wife Donna, Fort Meade, FL; daughter, June Geissler and husband Bryan, Spokane, WA; sisters, Joyce Canova, Laverne, AL, and Anna M. She was born March 29, 1918, in Fort Meade, Mrs. Keen came here from Clewiston in 1954. She worked for Florida Tile. She was a member of First Baptist Church at the Mall.  >Mrs. Keen was preceded in death by her husband, Park T. Keen.   >She is survived by her daughters, Myrna Harrell, Marilyn Williams and Gwen Black, all of Lakeland; sons, Melvin Herndon and Jerry Keen, both of Lakeland; brother, Lincoln Whidden, Lakeland; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren.Visitation will be Tuesday at Gentry-Morrison Northside Chapel.
