EDWIN CONNERY HIGHTOWER,
Jr. -
B: Feb. 17, 1923 Ft. Worth, Tarrant
CO.,Texas – D: Aug. 12, 1987-Orlando, Orange Co., Fl.
Edwin was born in Texas to Edwin Connery Hightower and
Eva Dee Dykes; he was the eldest of two sons.
Edwin Connery married Agnes Lois Lasseter on April 16, 1949 at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. It was a full military ceremony, including swords and the "whole shebang". They had four children; one son Randy died as a toddler while the family was living in Austria. Connery graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, class of 1947. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel while serving in the US Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force, he moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida, where he worked for Boeing at Cape Canaveral on the Apollo Space Program. His children have fond memories of their time at the "Cape". He was a member of MENSA, as well as other organizations. Connery originally earned the nickname "Tex" from his plebe class at West Point, and it stuck. I remember he used to call himself "Uncle Tex", but to me he was always my "Uncle Connery". - Aug. - 1987 |
