CHARLES W. 'MAC' MCCALL - 89 – Dept. of Transportation
BARTOW - Charles W. 'Mac' McCall, age 89, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014, at his residence in Bartow of lung cancer. Born October 4,1925, in Arcadia, FL, Mr. McCall was a resident of Bartow for since 1947, moving from Arcadia, FL..  He was a maintenance engineer for the Florida Department of Transportation for forty years. He was a member the U.S. Army's 106th Infantry Regiment Division serving in Europe in WWII as Corporal during the Battle of the Bulge and a former POW. Reformed Presbyterian Church. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 3, Bartow, former board member of Peace River Country Club. >He was a member of the Bartow Associate.  >  Mr. McCall was preceded in death by first wife, Connie McCall and daughter Patricia Pike. > He is survived by his wife, LaVerne McCall, Bartow; two sons, Michael McCall (Sandra), Bartow & Scott McCall (Robin), Mulberry; two daughters, Pamela Spiker (David), Lakeland & Susan Fullard (Jim), Bartow; 10 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren; brother, Ellis McCall (Virginia), Lake Placid.
 Family will receive friends Monday, November 17, 2014, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at 11:00 AM at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 205 E. Stanford St, Bartow. Interment with military honors will follow at Wildwood Cemetery, Bartow. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 1920 S. LAKE WALES -- Mrs. Patricia M. "Patty" Pike was athletic and enjoyed spending time outdoors with her husband and sons. "We have three boys. She enjoyed baseball, football, fishing, and always being at the beach," said her husband, Mike Pike. "She was always with the boys. She was a good person." The couple's 28th wedding anniversary was last Saturday.
 Mrs. Pike, a lifelong resident and paraprofessional at Polk Avenue Elementary School, died Sunday (April 20, 2003) at home after a two-year battle with cancer. She was born in Bartow on Nov. 10, 1952, she attended school in Bartow.  Mrs. Pike worked several jobs before she began working for the Polk County School Board, in the office and then as a physical education instructor at Polk Avenue Elementary School. "Some of her pupils are pretty good cross-country girls right now. One was all-state last year. She was the one that made them run -- she got them interested in it. So they did quite well," Mike Pike said. "She just had a great compassion and a lot of her life in the kids." Mrs. Pike attended First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales and was a former Bible school teacher. In > Mrs. Pike is survived by her sons, Colby Pike, Travis Pike and Beau Pike, all of Lake Wales; father, Mac McCall, Bartow; stepmother, Lavern McCall, Bartow; brothers, Mike McCall, Bartow, and Scott McCall, Lakeland; stepsisters, Pam Spiker, Bartow, and Susan Patten, Atlanta; and one grandson. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Polk Avenue Elementary School PTO Pavilion Fund, 110 E. Polk Avenue, or First Presbyterian Church Piano Fund, 16 N. Third St. Marion Nelson Funeral Home of Lake Wales. -
