LAKELAND - Katherine "Momma Kat" Wilcox-Grant  passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Oakbridge Health Center from heart failure. Born April 9, 1933 in Brewster, Florida to Delphia Sr. and Sallie Mae Wilcox.  She
graduated from Union Academy in Bartow where she was known as "Wilcox-Will-Pop" for her athletic ability in basketball.
Katherine's passion for cooking led her to Florida Baptist Children's Home where she spent over 30 years ministering from the kitchen to hundreds of children. When asked "what had been one of her most important contributions", her response was "being able to give of myself toward helping others as well as the children. It has been great!" She was known for cooking for large crowds on the job and for her church Mt. Olive M.B. Church in Bradley where she & her late husband Rev. Clarence Grant served for many years. She later became a member of New Hope MBC in Lakeland under the leadership of the late Rev. Charles Murff. When not in the kitchen, she enjoyed sewing & designing her matching outfits and her plants.
After retiring, her ministry of supplying food to so many people continued for years. Her long time neighbor for over 45 years, Lois Phyall stated that "Kat was such a blessing to more people than she will ever know. She fed the hungry for many years right from her back porch". This was her ministry.  > She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Cassaundra Wilcox-Graham of Orlando, Patsy Jones-Carson,
son, Roderick Fuller both of Lakeland; brothers: Levi & Delphia Wilcox Jr.; sisters: Mary Moore & Gloria Holmes (William); 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grands, 1 great-great grandchild, and a host of caring relatives and friends. Visitation will be Friday, March 2, 2012 at Word Alive Ministries.  Funeral services will be Saturday, March 3, 2012  at Word Alive Ministries.   Arrangements have been entrusted to Coney Funeral Home, 1404 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Lakeland, FL. - The Ledger, March 1, 2012
