Michael passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008. Born in Brewster Sept. 10, 1930. His family moved to Lakeland where he attended Lakeland Schools. He joined the U.S.Navy in 1950 and served as a Seabee during the Korean  War. After an honorable discharge he went to work for Publix Super Market and became theie first warehouse supervisor  in Miami  until his retirement. He returned to Lakeland and went to work for Magic Carpets and later he worked for Parkview Baptist Church, where he was an active member.
> Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Gordie Schuman Alderman, and one brother Harold Alderman.  >He is survived by his son: and 2 brothers : Memorial service held at Parkview Baptist Church on Feb.1st.  Interment was private. LAKELAND - Mr. Roland Lane Alderman died on March 20, 2012 at his home of cancer. He was born on April 18, 1924 in Brewster, Florida. Mr. Alderman was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Florida Trail Association. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.  >He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Mary Louise Hefferan Alderman and grandson, Andrew S. Alderman.  > Survivors include sons, Michael J. (Silvia) Alderman, Tallahassee, Fl., Patrick L. Katheryn was born, March 22, 1921 in Brewster - Died, December 2-, 2003 in Brandon. Mrs. Futch was a life long resident of Polk County, she was a records clerk for the Bartow Police Department. BRADLEY -- Mr. W.H. Carroll Sr. of Bradley died of heart failure Monday (May 2, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Brewster on March 4, 1926, he was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a plant foreman for Agrico. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bradley.  Mr. Carroll was preceded in death by his wife, Elouise Carroll.  > He is survived by his sons, Billy Carroll, Bradley, Kenny Carroll, Chicora, Jerry Carroll, Mulberry, Roger Carroll, Southlake, Texas; eight grandchildren. BRADLEY -- Mr. William H. "Billy" Carroll Jr. of Bradley died of complications of cancer of the larynx Wednesday (April 19, 2006) at Kindred Hospital in Tampa. He was born in Bartow on March 1, 1952, he came to Bradley from Lakeland 10 years ago. He was a boilermaker for Metalcoat.  He was a Baptist. >Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife, Donna Carroll; son, Brandon Carroll, Illinois; brothers, Kenny Carroll, Chicora, Jerry Carroll, Mulberry, Roger Carroll, Texas -   Memorial services will be this evening (April 21, 2006 ) at Seigler Funeral Home, Highway 60 E., Mulberry. 
> DURRANCE, James Freeman – 89 – Teacher -
James passed away Sunday, May 20, 2007, at his home in Bartow from respiratory failure. Mr. Durrance was born March 3, 1918 in Frostproof and grew up in Brewster, FL. He was the son of the late Leslie and Angie Parrish Durrance, who were pioneer Floridians.  Mr. Durrance joined the Army Air Corps in 1940, and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 5th Air Force, 8th Bomb Squadron, 3rd Bomb Group in the Pacific Theater. He attended the University of Florida and earned a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1949. He remained an avid Gator fan throughout his life. He used his degree to become a very successful Teacher and High School Coach. He coached football, basketball, and baseball for several high schools from the Gainesville area to Port Charlotte, even earning Teacher of the Year honors from Port Charlotte High School before later retiring. > Mr. James Durrance is also preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Mitchell Durrance, his sisters Ruth D. Simpson, and Mabel D. Sweat.  >  He is survived by his wife; Adele Bevis Durrance, daughter; Barbree Keith (Bob) of Jonesborough, Tenn., step daughter; Hilda Chamberlain of Bartow, brothers; Morris Durrance (Martha) of Plant City, Richard Durrance (Doris) of Ozark , AL, and Kenneth L. Richard of Ozark passed away Monday,May 9, 2011 at his residence. 
 Memorial services were held, Friday, May 13, 2011 in the chapel at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home in Ozark with Rev. Harold Peters officiating.The family recieved friends at the funeral home prior to the service.  Mr. Durrance was born October 16, 1923 in Brewster, Florida to Leslie and Angie PARRISH/ DURRANCE. He joined the U.S.Navy during WWII and served his country for 21 years.  Juanita was born January 24, 1915 in Brewster, Polk Co.,Fl.  and passed away July 14, 2011 at her home. She moved to Lakeland from Ft. Meade over 50 years ago. Miss Watson retired as a secretary with the Royster Mining Company and was a member  of the Medulla Baptist Church for 50 years. > Juanita was preceded in death by her sisters; Winona Keene and Hattie Mae Watson and her brother Solomon E. WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Solomon Edmund Watson Jr. of Lakeland died of heart failure Saturday (May 21, 2005) at Brandywyne Health Care Center, Winter Haven. Born Nov. 10, 1920, in Brewster, he was a lifelong resident of this area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in World War II. He was a supervisor for Estech Co., Bartow for 43 years. LAKELAND - Clement Moore Latimer passed away from natural causes on September 20th, 2011 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. Colonel Latimer was a lifelong resident of Polk County and was born in Brewster, Florida in 1920. He graduated from Mulberry High School in 1937. Colonel Latimer entered the Army Air Corps in 1941 where he attended flight training and was a pilot in WWII. After the war, he remained in the military and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Strategic Air Command in 1964. His career continued as a real estate broker in Highlands County where he established the first Lake Placid Board of Realtors and was its first president. He also was an avid pilot and owned Clem Latimer AirCraft Company. He was also President of the Rotary Club and was a Director of the local bank for 25 years. He retired and moved to Lakeland, Florida in 2000. Colonel Latimer distinguished himself by meritorious service as Crew Commander in the 100th Bombardment Wing. He lived his life as a true Patriot. > He is survived by his wife Mildred Latimer of Lakeland, son Stephen Latimer of Lakeland, son Andrew Latimer of Deltona, daughter Karol Schuyler of Bradenton. He is also survived by his six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.  Lakeland- Secretary-   age 76, passed away Monday, October 17, 2011 at her home due to heart failure. Ramona was born on March 24, 1935, in Brewster, FL, to Otis F. & Florence (Mecer) Wilson. She was a secretary for Florida Refreshment. She moved to Lakeland 17 years ago coming from Lithia. She was a devoted wife and mother, a board member of the Brewster Reunion, and of the Baptist faith.

 BARTOW- Ronald passed away Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale. Ronald was born Dec. 23, 1937 in Brewster, Fl., he was the son of the late William T. and Clara L. Surrency/ Richardson. Mr. Richardson was a long time resident of Bartow and worked for Polk County Land Fill Equipment Operator. He was also a veteran of the U.S.Army.  > Ronald was predeceased by his parents and his brother William T.  Lakeland – Iris Larsen passed away peacefully on April 18, 2012 in Lakeland due to natural causes. Born December 29, 1913 in Brewster, FL to Wiley and Martha Livingston, she was one of seven children. Iris attended school in Orlando and operated a beauty salon. She was of the Lutheran faith. In 1941, Iris married John Larsen. They moved to his hometown of Lakeland in 1946 and John took over his father’s jewelry business. The Larsen’s were owners of the family store from 1920-1993, in operation over 3 generations. Iris became a mother, raised her family and helped with the business. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.> She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John I. Larsen.  >Survivors include her children, John R. Larsen of Palm City, FL, Linda Larsen of Lakeland, FL and one grandson, John R. Larsen, Jr. of Palm City, FL. BRADLEY - Glenn Harold Smith, age 76, of Bradley, FL passed away on 8/8/11 from heart failure at his home in Bradley, Florida.  Glenn was born on 1/26/1935 in Brewster, Florida. Al as he was sometimes called, was a retired branch manager of Wilson-Toomer Fretalizer and was the founder and owner of Albritton Real Estate, Inc., Citrus Growers & Farmer. He was a member of Chi Phi Faternity, the Grand Guard of the University of Florida Alumni and former member of the Palmetto Jaycees. He served in WWII from 1942 to 1945 with the U.S. Naval Armed Guard. He was a member of Palma Sola Bay Baptist Church in Bradenton. >He is survived by his wife, Helen McLaughlin Albritton, Bradenton; daughters, Linda Herr, St. Petersburg and Gail Manuel and Jeff Lynn Westberry, both of Sarasota; sons, Kenneth D. Mulberry - Feb. 12- Special - Willaim Dennis Surrency, 42, of Brewster, dies at Morrell Memorial Hospital in Lakeland this morning. He had been in the hospital since Saturday. Funeral services will be heldfrom the home of the deceased Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Edward DeVane, of the Primitive Baptist Churchin Plant City, officiating.  Mr. Surrency was a mining superintendent  for American Cyanamid company in Brewster and had held that position for a number of years. He is survived by the widow and 2 daughters; Cara and Mildred, of Brewster; His mother, Mrs. Nellie Surrency of Brewster; 4 brothers, R.M. of Brewster, J.A. of Lakeland, B.F., of Bradenton and J.E. of Mulberry.  The body will lie in state at the Siegler funeral home here until Sunday morning when it will be taken to the Surrency home for funeral services. The Masons will be in charge of services at Mount Olive Cemetery.

 LAKELAND -Mary Peters Lord,peacefully passed away on August 29, 2012, due to natural causes. Mary grew up in Brewster, FL, and graduated from Brewster High School as valedictorian. She retired from a life-long career in insurance at American Cyanamid.  > Mary was predeceased by her parents, Niram F. Peters and Roberta Platt, along with her sons, Martin Weeks and Richard Birkby.  >She is survived by her sister, Hazel Duren, brother, "Pete" Peters (Reenie), two nephews, two nieces, and three granddaughters. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. At Mary's request, there will be no services.

FORT MEADE - Mr. George W. Zink, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 due to complications from a fall.
A native of Plainville, CT, George settled in Brewster, FL, after the war and later moved to Fort Meade in 1958.
George retired from American Cyanamid Company as a maintenance superintendent after 38 years. Among his many achievements with his work, George helped found ACCO Federal Credit Union where he served as loan officer for 33 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and a longtime member of the American Legion, where he served as chaplain for Post #23 in Fort Meade.  Mr. Zink was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Meade, and he was proud to be a 26 gallon blood donor at Citrus Regional Blood Center.

BARTOW - Floyd Allen Albritton, 62, of Bartow passed away March 6, 2010 from heart failure at Bartow Regional Medical Center. Born in Brewster, FL he was a lifelong resident of the area. He worked as a Pit Gunner for Agrico Phosphate Co. and was a Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He also was a member of the First Assembly of God in Bartow where he helped in the honoring of veterans by participating in the Church Veterans Day Ceremony. He also loved to fish.
 Floyd was preceded in death by his parents Leland and Opal Albritton and two brothers Frank Johnson and Curtis Lee Albritton. >He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Deborah Albritton

LAKELAND - Freddie Lee Woodson-Burton died of respiratory failure on July 29, 2013. She was born on February 25, 1935 in Brewster, FL to parents of Mr. Willie Fred Jones and Ms. Jewell Borders. She was raised by Mr. and Mrs. William McKinney, Sr. and moved to Lakeland during early adulthood.  She retired from Florida Tile after greater than 30 years of employment. She was a member of New Bethel AME Church where she served as an Emeritus Trustee, member of Senior Ministry Board; former member of the Sarah Allen Missionary Society and Finance Committee; loved to attend Sunday School and Bible Study; former President and member of the Celestials Club. Mrs. Freddie-Woodson Burton was an outgoing woman and served humanity well. Lakeland -Patricia passed away Sept. 22, 2011.  Ms. Hallock was born in Brewster, FL on Feb. 8, 1941 to George and Louis McQuaig and remained a lifelong resident of the Polk County area. She worked as a registered nurse and was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Her greatest hobbies were playing Bingo and spending time with her children and family. > Ms. Hallock was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hallock.  >She is survived by her son, Sean (Julie) Wampole of Ocala; daughter, Kelli Collins (Tom) of Bartow; brothers, George (Linda) McQuaig of Lakeland, David (Joan) McQuaig of Lakeland and Michael "Mickey" (Janice) McQuaig of Tampa; sister, Lynn (Jamie) Carter of Merritt Island; grandchildren, Sydney, Sean and Christopher Collins and Brian Thomas; and her dear friend, Pam Thomas of Lakeland. LAKELAND - Geraldine 'Jerry' Heidel, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015, in Lakeland. Born October 6, 1929, in Brewster, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Lamar and Pearl Mae Williams. Mrs. Heidel retired from the Polk County Clerk of the Courts after many years 6of service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bartow, as well as several other clubs and organizations, both locally and in North Carolina.  > Jerry is also preceded in death by her sister Kathryn Horton and her grandson Andrew Alderman.  She will be remembered, most of all, as the beloved wife of her husband of 67 years Walt Heidel of Lakeland. She also leaves behind three children: Susan Bergdoll (David) of Lakeland, Ed Heidel Jr. (Bobbie) of Chattanooga, TN, Kathy Alderman (Pat) of Lakeland, three grandchildren: Ed Heidel, III, Kathy Schultz (Steven), Amanda Bergdoll, and two great grandchildren: Aaron and Jessica Schultz. LAKE WALES - Ernestine Mann Stalvey passed away Friday, February 12, 2016, at Savannah Court in Bartow. She was born July 13, 1922, in Chicora, FL to the late Jefferson Franklin and Nora Albritton.graduated from Brewster High School in Brewster, FL and was a former member Lake Wales Music Club and Women Club. She was a member of the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Chicora, FL, and a former member of the First Baptist  Church of Lake Wales . Ernestine was a homemaker and former cosmetologist. . >Ernestine was preceded in death by her first husband, Claude E. Mann; and second husband, W.L. Stalvey. > Survivors include her daughter, Claudia Mann McKenzie and husband, Mack of Fort Meade; son, Terry K. Mann of Fort Meade; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, February 15, 2016, from 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Interment will follow at Lake Wales Cemetery.
