Valentine V. Van Huss

Valentine Van Huss was the son of Benjamin J. Van Huss, born abt.1812
in Tenn. and Sarah Greer, born, Feb. 13, 1814, in Tenn.
Located on the 1850 census for Carter County, Tenn. the family is listed as farmers, Benjamin and Sarah were married June 10, 1837. Children listed in this 1850 census were; Juliann, age 12 - William, age 11 - Valentine, age 9 - John, age 7 - Mary, age 4 - Geog L., age 2 - Benjamin F.,age 1/12. a child Susan C. was born in 1852. Valentine is not found on the 1860 census, however, he was in service in the Civil War, Co.A 8th. Tenn. Cavalry, 11 June 1863. From this service he drew a pension he filed for in 1880. In 1870, Valentine is in Greene Co.,Tenn. at age of 29, he is listed as a Merchant born in Tenn. In 1910 census he is now in Polk County,Florida and listed as age of 69, living with his wife, Catherine ( Radar ) age 54, and has been married for 39 years, 2 children listed as still living, Sarah M. age 34 who had been married to James R.Duggan for 13 years, with one daughter, Genevieve A.,age 11. Valentine is listed as the Proprieter of a Saw Mill and James Duggan as an Engineer Locomotive. In 1920, Polk County, Valentine and Catherine are still living and ages listed as 79 and 69, retired. Sally M.Duggan and children Genevieve and Jack age 7 4/12, are now listed as living with Valentine and Catherine, James is not listed. In 1930 , Valentine then age 89 was living with the Duggan Family. According to Military Records Valentine died, June 11, 1942.
