Granny" Daniel, Pioneer Resident of
Winter Haven, Dies -----------------------------

Mrs. Sue Ivey Daniel,
known to many as "Granny Daniel"90 year old pioneer of Winter Haven,
died Saturday at her home. Mrs.Daniel was affectionately known as "
Granny" to thousands of residents in this section of Polk County.She was the daughter of : Richard Asbury and Anna Slack Ivey. Born: Adairville,Ky. on Sept. 3, 1857. She was married to J.A.Daniel in 1877, living in Kentucky until the family moved to Geln St. Mary,Baker County,Florida early in the century and then to the community of Winter Haven in 1905. In 1906, Mrs. Daniel became one of the 11 Charter Members organizing the First Methodist Church in Winter Haven. At the time of her death, she was one of 2 surviving charter members of the congreation which had grown to 925 members. Mr. Daniel was a citrus grower, who died in Winter Haven in 1917 and at that time Mrs. ( Sue ) Daniel and a daughter, Mrs. Mary, have lived together. She was also survived by another daughter, Mrs. Maude , of this city and by 5 sons. Hubert C., Leon A., Basil E., Raymond I., and James A., 17 grandchildren 19 great-grandchildren and by a half brother: R.A. Ivey, of Adairville,Ky. Mrs.Daniel's last public appearance was on Christmas Day when she headed the annual family reunion of the Daniel's a traditional event held for many years. Mrs. Daniel's attended services whenever her health would permit it and she was honored on several occasions in the special anniversary services of the congregation. Services will be held at 3p.m. Monday at the First Methodist Church, in charge of her pastor, the Rev. Clyde C.Frazier, and Dr. J.D.Hunt, of Davenport, a former pastor. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. arrangements by: Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home. |
